The author wishes to state that the Mosaic system of tithing has always puzzled him. It was not, however, until recent years that he began to take a deeper interest in the general subject of tithing. Due to the fact that many of our Lutheran pastors and layman are tithers, and due also to the fact that the scriptures speak so often of giving, he has taken this opportunity to investigate and trace the history and development of tithing from remote antiquity to the present day.
