Outside The Church Walls: An Empirical Exploration Of Organizational Culture And Pastoral Leadership In Two Urban Churches, Althea P. Gordon-Scott, Joshua D. Henson, Bethany D. Peters, Katrina Hutchins

Great Commission Research Journal

A mini-ethnographic case study explored the interconnections of organizational culture and pastoral leadership with sustainable outreach in two very different churches that focus on ministry to people with life-controlling issues and economic need: a small, primarily Black church in the Great Lakes region and a large, primarily White and Hispanic church in the western United States. Despite their differences, the churches shared similar espoused values and leadership characteristics that facilitated their outreach initiatives. Themes derived from the data include altruistic foundations, the value of relationships, exemplary pastoral leadership, organizational challenges, agile organizational systems, and the centrality of God.

This paper examines how religious leaders shape narratives of identity formation and reconciliation in post-civil conflict societies where violence, defeat, or political transition produces moral injury and crises of meaning. By drawing on themes of justice, forgiveness, and accountability, religious leadership can wield moral authority to influence public perception, guide healing processes, and support transitions from active conflict to more stable forms of peace. The paper explores how religious leaders reframe narratives of defeat, particularly in cases where a community’s cause was endowed with sacred meaning, creating a crisis of faith. Southwestern Louisiana and southeastern Texas experienced a series of disturbingly similar ax murders from November 1909 to August 1912. In nearly every case, a black family living within a mile of the Sunset Limited line of the Southern Pacific Railroad was brutally slaughtered in their own home, victims of a surreptitious assailant. Eventually, a young black woman would take credit for some of the crimes, ushering in the language of “religious fanaticism” as a potential motive. Both of Haydn’s late oratorios, The Creation and The Seasons, contain depictions of sunrises, a subject matter that Sisman (2013) has characterized as “Emergent Light,” in contrast with the famous “absolute” creation of light at the opening of The Creation. In addition to their shared object of representation, the four sunrise passages I identify in these two works all use a phrase-level schema Gjerdingen (2007) has christened the Do-Re-Mi. In this paper, I enrich our cultural understanding of Haydn’s sunrises by attending to nuanced semantic implications of the Do-Re-Mi, illustrating how phrase-level schemata can construct extramusical meaning.

This study aimed to investigate the role of the "University Life Skills" course in developing and sustaining self-learning skills among female students at Taibah University, serving as a model for interdisciplinary social studies curricula aligned with the goals of sustainable social education. Employing a descriptive-analytical approach, an electronic questionnaire comprising 11 dimensions was administered to a purposive sample of 41 students. The results revealed a significantly high positive role of the course in fostering skill development and sustainability, with mean scores ranging from 4.17 to 4.55. It also examined whether statistically significant differences existed in responses based on academic department and academic rank. A questionnaire was used as the primary data collection instrument and administered to 186 female faculty members—including professors, associate professors, and assistant professors—out of a total participants of 201. This study aimed to identify the level of readiness among teachers who teach students with autism spectrum disorder in inclusive education programs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and to examine how prior training, specialty (general vs. special education), and teaching experience influence this readiness. A descriptive survey design was used validated for reliability, was administered to 144 teachers (84 general education, 60 special education). Results indicated a high level of readiness among participants overall. The current research aimed to determine the extent of the "University Life Skills" course content's contribution to enhancing academic adjustment and self-confidence among students at the University of Hail. It utilized the Analytical Descriptive Method to achieve this objective. The research sample consists of (204) students enrolled in the course from six diverse colleges. The research results consistently confirmed that the course's contribution to both enhancing academic adjustment and developing self-confidence was perceived as high (mean scores: 2.57 and 2.60, respectively). The study aimed to analyze the content of the science curriculum for the third intermediate grade in light of future thinking skills. The two textbooks in the 2025 science curriculum edition consisted of 12 chapters and 28 lessons. The study used a descriptive approach based on content analysis and developed an analytical instrument consisting of 32 indicators that were distributed across six core future thinking skills. These skills included prediction, problem-solving, visualization, anticipation, analysis of future situations, and future foresight. The present study investigates how the variation of speech rate affects the acoustic cues across stop-vowel sequences in Bisha dialect (BD), an Arabic dialect spoken in the southern region of Saudi Arabia. Applying an acoustic approach, the study examines segmental duration (closure and following vowel), fundamental frequency (f0 onset), and voice quality (H1-H2 onset) on target stops taken from a sample of thirty native speakers of BD. The acoustic measures are evaluated using linear mixed-effects and logistic regression models.
