This paper explores how literature can challenge faulty-person schemas as defined by Mark Bracher through an analysis of Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi. The paper outlines how Saadawi pushes her readers to question faulty-person schemas and biases and also question the impact these schemas have on institutions and structures that are rooted in bias to oppress and control minorities. The main character in the novel, Firdaus, is a woman who fights against oppressive structures for her protection and freedom, and through humanizing such a character, Saadawi demonstrates how faulty-person schemas place inaccurate judgements on people and encourage …

This paper explores Emerald Fennel's film Promising Young Woman and the relationship between women and male violence and how male violence is protected by misogynistic structures, specifically in the case of sexual assault. The paper argues that institutions and structures that are rooted in patriarchy and misogyny are fundamentally unable to protect women from the actions of violent men, both in the film and in reality.

Abstract: How are we to understand plagiarism? In early 2024, controversy broke out over plagiarism accusations against Harvard’s former president, Claudine Gay. The plagiarism accusations against Gay were the beginning of the politicization of plagiarism claims. During this crisis, plagiarism seemed to entail terrible wrongdoing, no matter the form or extent. Garrett Pendergraft, with research assistance from Arik Chu, provides a counterfactual model of understanding the relationship between plagiarism and ethical wrongdoing: a particular instance of plagiarism is wrong to the extent that removing it from history would make a big difference. I conducted an in-depth research project on Emma Ody Pohl, the Director of Physical Education at Mississippi University for Women from 1908 to 1955. I wanted to highlight Pohl's significance on her students and the college. I used the records, letters, and documents in the Pohl Papers at the Beulah Culbertson Archives and Special Collections to analyze Pohl's importance and create a biography of her time at the college. I also conducted further research into the idea of Southern White Womanhood throughout the twentieth century. Through this information, it is evident that the life and teaching of Emma Ody Pohl …

The story of the Anglican reformation is often simplified to the result of King Henry VIII's desire for a divorce; however, this paper argues that it was a complex and prolonged process marked by differing Anglican and Catholic narratives. By exploring primary sources, including letters and interviews, as well as secondary analyses, this paper discusses misconceptions surrounding the Reformation, such as its speed and primary motivations. It further examines the formation of early Anglican doctrine and the contrasting presentations of the Reformation, revealing instances of resistance, the destruction of Catholic art, and the mistreatment of churches, which are frequently downplayed …

AWANAY is a boutique weaving company. AWANAY’s mission is to support dignity and provide continuous opportunity for rural weavers. The project aligns with this mission for community-centered development in rural regions.

Home to AWANAY’s skilled artisans, Blanca Pozo, Argentina faces environmental pressures, including extreme heat, flooding, and limited access to electricity and fresh water. Drawing on the history of Argentine architecture and global sustainable design principles, this project proposes solutions tailored to the local climate and culture. Through this approach, this design meets immediate challenges and fosters resilience and prosperity for generations of weavers to come.

Jewish dietary regulations (kashrut) are followed as a religious practice derived from the Torah, teaching what food one can eat and how to prepare it. The customs require the separation of meat and dairy, the consumption only of specific beasts, and the adherence of ritual slaughter (shechita). Being kosher is a way in which Jewish individuals can be spiritually trained and obey God's commandments while generating a sense of sanctity within daily life.

Ancient desert civilizations developed ingenious building techniques to adapt to extreme heat, scarce water, and harsh winds. One of the most effective strategies was the use of thermally massive materials such as adobe, rammed earth, and stone, which absorbed heat during the day and released it at night, creating natural temperature regulation. The Navajo (Diné) hogan, a traditional dwelling of the American Southwest, exemplifies this principle. Hogan walls were often built with packed earth and timber, providing insulation against both the searing daytime heat and the frigid desert nights. Audiovisual translation includes dubbing, subtitling, surtitling, and voiceover of media. Each variation has different implications and considerations considered in the translation.

• Subtitling/Surtitling requires condensing of dialog and descriptive messaging to fit in the space. Translators may choose to adapt the message to the target audience or not.

• Dubbing/Voiceover requires creative solutions to match up the translation with the exact timing of the original gestures and body language. More domestication of the message is required to make the media flow for the target audience in the same way it flows for the original audience.
