From Camp Jefferson, Ohio, he thanks his family for supplies but adamantly dispels rumors that his regiment and others lack food. He notes recruiting efforts and speculates on the length of the war, which he defies England (“John Bull”) to enter on the Confederate side. From Bowling Green, Kentucky, he expresses doubt that peace is near and refers to meeting family friends in the town.

The letter, from committee chairman Mrs. Charles D. Greer, laments the neglect of the tomb of President Zachary Taylor near Louisville, Kentucky, and outlines the Committee’s intent to construct an entrance to a “Memorial Lane” leading from Brownsboro Road to the monument at the cemetery in which Taylor is interred.

Includes a rendering of the proposed entrance.

Although they address her as "sister" and "aunt," no relation is apparent. They discuss religious (Methodist) and family matters. Also includes a letter from Samuel Landstreet to H. Stevens and Charlotte Belt in which Landstreet expresses his feelings about emancipation. Finally, an appeasement agreement made between a prominent group of Baptist leaders in 1892, apparently in Louisville.
