The Justification Of Jehan Petit: A Fifteenth-Century Attempt To Justify Tyrannicide, John C. Parsons
The Justification Of Jehan Petit: A Fifteenth-Century Attempt To Justify Tyrannicide, John C. Parsons
Masters Theses
The Justification of Jehan Petit was composed as an attempt to explain the murder in 1407 of Louis, duke of Orleans, by his cousin John the Fearless, duke of Burgundy. The murder was politically necessary for John to be able to dominate the French government while the king, Charles VI, was mad.
Petit attempted to prove that the duke of Orleans had been a tyrant, and that the murder was justifiable as tyrannicide. The validity of Petit’s theory demanded that he be able to prove Louis' tyranny. In so doing, he departed radically from the medieval concept of a tyrant …
Piano Group Instruction Versus Individual Instruction, Renate L. Meyer
Piano Group Instruction Versus Individual Instruction, Renate L. Meyer
Masters Theses
In this thesis an attempt has been made to discuss and clarify some aspects of piano group instruction and individual piano teaching. The writer has tried to examine the relative advantages and goals of each and to point out some of their pitfalls and problems. An attempt has been made to emphasize the tremendously important role which the teacher plays in group sessions, as well individual lessons. The different abilities, character1stics levels, age groups and future plans of the students have been taken in to consideration. Outlines of group lessons for beginners and an example of an individual lesson have …

Fourteenth Century Normans In West Africa, Kaye Louise Centers
Fourteenth Century Normans In West Africa, Kaye Louise Centers
Honors Theses
During the seventeenth century, a legend grew among the French which claims that during the reign of Charles V of France, a group of industrious and daring sailors of Normandy sailed to northwest Africa and then into the unknown waters of West Africa. By 1383 these Normans had reached the Gold Coast and had established a flourishing trade with the people there. This story seems very remarkable because it was not until the mid-fifteenth century that the Portuguese, under the direction and guidance of Prince Henry, ventured for the first time into West African waters and not until 1*4-86 that they …

Concise Abstraction: J.D. Salinger, Michael J. Durkin
Honors Theses
The works of J, D. Salinger have progressed in several ways from his earliest published works. The subject matter has changed in an attempt to meet the purposes of the author, and I believe that these stales or purposes of the author fit into four main groups—the observer, the philosopher, the preacher, and the mystic.
