Computer Technology In Writing Centers: Ways To Increase Their Effectiveness In The Instruction Of Freshman English And Intercurricular Studies, Christopher King Aug 1997

Computer Technology In Writing Centers: Ways To Increase Their Effectiveness In The Instruction Of Freshman English And Intercurricular Studies, Christopher King

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

To maximize our potentials in Room 127, we must deal with a variety of aspects — the history of the Writing Center, its functions, perceptions of it, pedagogies related to it, and its space, and our goals, for example ~ before we simply sit our freshman in front of computers and give them a writing prompt. Chapter One will provide a brief history of what Room 127's function has been. This review is necessary so that we …

The Bodhisattva Ideal In Theravāda Buddhist Theory And Practice: A Reevaluation Of The Bodhisattva-Śrāvaka Opposition, Jeffrey Samuels

Philosophy & Religion Faculty Publications

In the academic study of Buddhism the terms" Mahayana" and "Hinayana" are often set in contradiction to each other, and the two vehicles are described as having different aspirations, teachings, and practices. The distinctions made between the Mahayana and the Hinayana, how-ever, force the schools into neat, isolated, and independent categories that often undermine the complexities that exist concerning their beliefs, ideologies, and practices.

"Indignities, Wrongs, And Outrages": The Home Front In Kentucky During The Civil War, Scott Lucas May 1997

"Indignities, Wrongs, And Outrages": The Home Front In Kentucky During The Civil War, Scott Lucas

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

In the 1920s historians such as James Harvey Robinson and Arthur Schlesinger, Sr., attempted to examine historical topics using new methodology. Writing "New Social History," they endeavored to emphasize society, culture, and the common people rather than great men and strictly political events. Since the 1980s historians have exhibited new interest in the importance of social history. "Indignities, Wrongs, and Outrages: The Homefront In Kentucky During The Civil War" attempts to apply the methods of the "new social historians" to the era of the American Civil War, centering on the homefront by examining in detail its impact on the everyday …

The Dissent And Its Change, Lee R. Hunt May 1997

The Dissent And Its Change, Lee R. Hunt

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

The Dissent and Its Change is a historical look at a few of the men who have had an important impact on the United States Supreme Court. Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes is best known for his many dissenting opinions while on the Supreme Court. He was one of the first Justices to give the dissenting opinion legitimacy and to make it into a powerful force that can change the law. Justice Holmes spent much of his thirty-year term on the Supreme Court dissenting against the use ofthe Fourteenth Amendment to invalidate laws passed by state and federal legislatures. In the …
