The Hands Beneath The Blood, Kasey Bell Jan 2009

The Hands Beneath The Blood, Kasey Bell

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

I love history. Always have, always will. And it’s true what they say: history really is written by the winners. Anyone who ends up on the losing side is always branded as evil by the winners. Some deserve it, and some don’t. Take the Germans in World War II. Now, I am in no way condoning the actions of the Nazi party, but the important thing to remember is that not everyone in Germany at the time was a Jew-hating, Hitler-loving fascist. "Survival With Honor": The Battle Between The Flesh And The Spirit In The Dramas Of Tennessee Williams, Kirby Watkins

Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects

Tennessee Williams struggled his entire life with sexuality and spirituality. His view of God and sex were continuously intermingled in confusion, and the resulting chaos found its way into many of Williams’ plays. This thesis focuses on Williams’ entire career, from his very first plays to some of his last. The theme of flesh versus spirit is examined closely. Williams attempted in many ways to find a balance between the two and his characters exemplify this search.
