McGaughey with Otis Lee Wiggins about the resettlement program undertaken by the Resettlement Administration Project 14 in Christian County, Kentucky. Wiggins was an administrator for the U.S. Resettlement Administration and discusses the Christian County program in great detail.

Many of the artists included in this collection participated in programs offered at, but not limited to, the Kentucky Folklife Festival, Made to be Played Exhibit, apprenticeship programs, and survey or fieldwork that was conducted by the Kentucky Folklife Program. Artists included musicians (gospel, blues, bluegrass, banjo, thumbpicking guitarists, and singing) to traditional artists (painting, quilting, storytelling, basketmaking, and instrument making). Writing from Bowling Green, Kentucky, he describes troop strengths and movements in the area, the destruction of railroads and blockading of roads by the Confederates, and an anticipated encounter with Union troops at Green River.
