Stedman, Athens, Ohio, recounting his journey west to Bonaparte in Van Buren County, Iowa, where he is teaching. He describes his bouts with illness and his new surroundings. He also reports seeing 7-foot 8-inch Jim Porter, the “Kentucky Giant,” while in Louisville, Kentucky, and remarks on Porter’s size and on his gun and cane.

While declining their invitation to visit Frankfort for an event on 26 October, Tillinghast, a Whig and U.S. Representative, offers lengthy praise for the party’s work in the 27th U.S. Congress and pays homage to Henry Clay and Kentucky.

The objectives of my exhibition, reception and visit to Korea were met with success. My work was packed and shipped out to Korea by Western Kentucky University. Over a half ton of art work was sent to Korea. The work arrived in South Korea and was delivered on time, May 25, to allow for installation at the Gail Art Museum, Gyeonggi-Do. During the exhibition local art patrons and students from area schools attended the exhibition. The exhibition ran from May 27 through June 26.

In response to Beatty’s inquiry, the former Kentucky governor writes that, despite facing personal financial loss, he is unable to advise on current debt relief measures directing Beatty to accept payments to “the Bank,” presumably the Bank of Kentucky, in discounted notes of the Bank of the Commonwealth.

The Willis family correspondence (the bulk of the collection) is almost exclusively amongst females, so housekeeping, sewing, fashion, family matters are discussed frequently. Frank Willis, the family patriarch, does discuss farming with his daughters. Many of the letters are addressed to his wife, Laura (Edmunds) Willis, and a majority of those are from her daughters.

In 2011, following several years of in-country research, I published a book on Lithuanian folk pottery. I enrolled in the Folk Studies master’s program at Western Kentucky University (WKU) in 2014, well after my research and book had been completed. In the present study, I use my newly acquired knowledge of folklore In my previous work to revisit Lithuanian folk pottery.

In my previous work, I had sought to create a picture of “authentic” Lithuanian folk pottery that was confined to the narrow temporal borders of 1861-1918. Here I deconstruct conventional ideas about authenticity, as well as culture and heritage, …

On 19 September 1865, she writes of her family in New Albany, Indiana, her husband’s business, and her affection for Catherine’s young daughter. On 22 February 1866, she relates further news of her family and husband, and wonders if Catherine has another baby; in light of her delicate health, she suggests that Catherine send her husband “trav[e]ling” and offers to help “give him a good whip[p]ing.”
