Research Collections

This is a listing of the Topo maps housed in the KLRC; 7.5, 15 and 30 minute Kentucky and Boundary State Maps. These maps are helpful in genealogy to show how the landscape may have changed and they may have the locations of lost towns and cemeteries and indicate houses, barns, and other structures and how place names, roads, and streams changed over time.

The Shake Rag Historic District, located along the north end of State Street in Bowling Green, Kentucky, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in September 2000. It is Bowling Green’s first National Register District recognized for its significance to African American history. American religion and politics have always been closely intertwined. Though America was founded on ideals of religious pluralism and tolerance, the actual landscape of American religion often resembled the opposite of these ideas. As a religious majority, Protestants in the nineteenth-century believed in a specific American identity—one which championed the “virtuous” family and a capitalist market system. Yet, some religious organizations challenged these norms, making them the object of intense persecution. One of the most famous of these examples is the Mormons. The Duane De Paepe Kentucky Cave Saltpetre History Research Collection, a collection of historical research, field notes, cave surveys, photographs, maps, reports, and scholarly writing on saltpetre mining in Kentucky, especially at Mammoth Cave. The collection was created under a research program sponsored by the Cave Research Foundation and the National Geographic Society in Kentucky, 1976-1980, and directed by De Paepe.

The date of receipt is listed as 21 November 1829. On the left margin Fendall, a journalist, attorney, and politician in Washington, D.C. has noted when he replied to Clay in January 1830. The red wax seal remains attached; the envelope is empty.

Estes, recently the pastor of First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, Kentucky, written to update them on his travel, family life and work teaching at the Baptist Theological Seminary, Zurich, Switzerland, and after his return to the United States. A 1994 letter, written for inclusion in the cornerstone of the new Bowling Green church building, reviews his career as its pastor.
