Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

The Colonelette

On September 22, 1949, Shirley Cupp, Irma Beisel, Frances Stuckey and Mr. Hilary Bufton Jr. met in a coffee shop in downtown Kansas City to incorporate the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Jean Fulkerson helped start The Kentucky Colonels Chapter on 3 June 1964 in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Twenty-six women met at Western Hills Restaurant and elected Linda Sidebottom as the first president. Besides providing professional development opportunities for local businesswomen, the Chapter gave scholarships to women furthering their education, and held social and recognition events throughout the year. Much of the popular discussion of the social responsibilities of corporations overlooks the fundamental question of whether corporations (as opposed to their employees) are the type of entities to which it is proper to make responsibility ascriptions. That is the question I address in this paper. I proceed by outlining the criteria a subject must meet in order to qualify as a moral agent (the most controversial of which when applied to corporations is the capability of intentional action) and then examining five popular views on the status of corporations. Singing school teachers, who teach rural church congregations to sing from shape-note gospel songbooks, are still working in southcentral Kentucky, but the demand for them is smaller than it was in the first half of the twentieth century. The interdependence network in which singing school teachers, songbook publishers, and community singing events were key parts began to weaken in the 1940s as a result of the growth in popularity of professional gospel quartet concerts and gospel record albums. No one knows exactly when the Indians first entered the area we now call Kentucky, but there is an approximation. Archeologists have found evidence of Clovis camps and living sites in the state (9,000 to 12,000 B.P.), This would have been during the Paleo Stage, toward the end of the last ice age. The climate of the area would have been much cooler then. The selection of plants and animals would also have been different than those found in modern times.
