El Intendente, Los Comerciantes Y El "Comercio Libre" En Luisiana 1778-1788, Brian E. Coutts
DLPS Faculty Publications
Spain acquired Louisiana from France in 1763 but was initially unsuccessful in integrating the distant colony into the Spanish commercial system. Encouraged by the colony’s chief financial officer, Intendant Martín Navarro, the Spanish Crown introduced legislation on January 22, 1782 to promote commerce. Free trade was to be permitted for ten years with designated ports in France. The liberal character of the code fostered the growth of numerous merchant companies in New Orleans who found markets for all of Louisiana’s exports in France, England and the French West Indies. Traces, the South Central Kentucky Genealogical Society's quarterly newsletter, was first published in 1973. The Society changed its name in 2016 to the Barren County Historical Society. Transcription of an interview with Michael Patrick Carroll conducted by Xiaoge Cai on 16 September 1988 for a folk studies class project titled "Mr. C.'s Coffee House as Clientele." Carroll discusses his work as the owner of a coffee house/bar called Mr. C's Coffee House in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He discusses his life and relevant problems with his work including dealing with minors and issues with radio broadcasting. This project was completed in fulfillment of the requirements for a folk studies class at Western Kentucky University.
