I cannot remember a time in my life when I wasn’t dancing. Since I was four, I’ve experimented with different styles, including ballet, tap, modern, and theater. Dancing to me has always been an art and a form of self-expression. In college, I started dancing Ballroom and Latin and fell in love with dancing all over again. For my Honors project, my goal was to try something that I hadn’t done before. I chose to create dances, to choreograph and perform ballroom dances with my peers.

I have always enjoyed the challenge music has given me. I have found very few disciplines that can give a work ethic while engaging one’s emotions. Music connects the analytical left side of the brain while uniting itself with the expressive right side of the brain. I began playing trumpet at ten years old and switched to the euphonium (a lower brass instrument with the range of a trombone but the sound of a French horn) in sixth grade when I got braces. In the process of designing the costumes for a show, it is important to understand the psyche of each of the characters. The completion of thorough research can give valuable insight into the characters, as well as details of the setting of the play. A designer then takes this information, in the form of photographs, journals, period documents, and modern analysis and combines it to achieve a unified vision of the play’s environment. They must then work with the director and other designers to present this vision to the audience. This semester, I had the opportunity to explore this process …
