Returning To The Beginning Place: Le Guin’S Forgotten Anti-Fantasy Four Decades On, Timothy S. Miller Feb 2025

Returning To The Beginning Place: Le Guin’S Forgotten Anti-Fantasy Four Decades On, Timothy S. Miller

UKL: The Journal of Ursula K. Le Guin Studies

Ursula K. Le Guin's 1980 portal fantasy The Beginning Place has received a fraction of the critical attention that most of her other novels have attracted over the years. This short book's many enigmas, often structured by self-consciously Jungian symbolism, are best understood as operating in service not to a strict Jungian framework, but rather to a broader metafictional evaluation of fantasy and an articulation of Le Guin's own preferred approach to the reading and interpretation of fantasy. At times, The Beginning Place moves beyond meta-fantasy to become an anti-fantasy that does not shy from critiquing some dimensions of both …

A Cross-Cultural Analysis Of Violence Prevention Programs In Central Asia And The U.S. Education Systems, Nilufar Bobjonova Jan 2025

A Cross-Cultural Analysis Of Violence Prevention Programs In Central Asia And The U.S. Education Systems, Nilufar Bobjonova

Graduate Research Papers

The rise of youth violence and aggressive behavior has become a significant public health concern, affecting individuals on multiple levels, including physical, economic, social, and psychological well-being. Given the national attention this issue has received in the United States, various prevention programs have been designed to equip children with essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes to minimize their involvement in violent activities (Higgerson et al., 2008). Preventing violence through structured programs is essential for creating safe and supportive educational environments. Schools serve as an ideal platform for implementing these initiatives, as they provide a consistent setting for teaching young individuals critical …

Perspectives On Music Within The Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Community, Anna Hanbeck Jan 2025

Perspectives On Music Within The Deaf And Hard Of Hearing Community, Anna Hanbeck

Graduate Research Papers

This study investigates how Deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) individuals perceive and experience music. Through a survey with DHH participants, the research explores alternative modes of musical perception, including vibration, visual cues, and emotional response. Findings reveal that many DHH individuals actively engage with music through multisensory strategies, challenging the understanding of music as primarily a hearing-based experience. The results highlight the importance of inclusive musical practices and technologies that provide diverse sensory experiences. Music is an experience that can be sought through different means. This research contributes to a broader understanding of accessibility in the arts and underscores …

The Effect Of Note Highlighting On Note Identification Accuracy In Beginning Band Students, Thomas R. Knowles Jan 2025

The Effect Of Note Highlighting On Note Identification Accuracy In Beginning Band Students, Thomas R. Knowles

Graduate Research Papers

This study was completed in the spring of 2025 and is based on the effectiveness of colored notation in music reading in beginning band students. An extensive literature review was conducted that supports the usage of color in educational material. Extensive research has been done on color in music education, and that research was used in this study. This study’s primary question is how color affects student note-reading. The hypothesis generated for the study is that students who receive highlighted notes see improvement in their note-reading compared to those who do not. The method used in this study was a …
