Technological strides are being made constantly. Creative writing has changed with technology. Creative writers can publish their work online; creative pieces proliferate as online communities share their interests. “Editing Creative Manuscripts—Becoming a Multimodal Entity: From Manuscript to Multimodality” offers a perspective on the editing cycle to move from static editing of the creative manuscript into a multimodal entity. Running Past The Trees: Facing Childhood And Adolescence In Iowa's Cedar Valley, University Of Northern Iowa. Two-Dimensional Concepts (Spring 2017).

Running Past the Trees Project

This anthology is the result of a service-learning project supported by The Facing Project. Students enrolled in Two-Dimensional Concepts, a foundations art course at the University of Northern Iowa, and K-12 authors at the Waterloo Writing Project collaborated over the course of a semester through shared stories, conversations, and illustrations. The authors provided stories of their experiences and memories growing up in the Cedar Valley and were partnered with first year UNI art students who took inspiration from the authors' writings to create accompanying illustrations.

On January 30, 1908, ice harvester Frank Osgood, who was hard at work on the Cedar River during a viciously cold day taking ice blocks cut from the river then up the elevator to the ice house, “froze his eye lids.” Common tasks in the natural ice industry required workers to be out in the coldest winter conditions to produce blocks of frozen water for sale to those who kept food fresh year-round. Hard physical labor permeates the natural ice industry’s fascinating history and is often overlooked, but the story of Osgood and those like him offers insight into the …

As my undergraduate education in opera stage direction comes to a close, I have designed my own final project: It is my intent to research and direct an original production of Antonio Salieri’s short opera Kleine Harlequinade. The opera will be performed in English by UNI School of Music students, with full scenic and costume production values. Salieri, though well known during his lifetime as a contemporary of Mozart, is rarely performed today. This research project will involve a complete analysis of the script and score, a literature review on the operas of Salieri, and the creation of a directing …
