To assert that Charles Dickens possessed a mastery of language unique among nineteenth-century novelists for its vernacular inventiveness is hardly controversial. The Oxford Dictionary of English Idioms lists Dickens among its most cited sources (others include the Bible and Shakespeare). Dickens’s use of ordinary, unembellished, and what Anthony Trollope termed vulgarly “ungrammatical” lower-class language sets his novels apart in style and tone from those of his famous peers (249). William Thackeray, the Brontës, George Eliot, Elizabeth Gaskell, Margaret Oliphant, Thomas Hardy and others – despite their many differences – generally composed their fiction in higher, more formal linguistic registers than …

Eight middle- and high-school Computer Science (CS) teachers in San Diego County were interviewed about the major challenges their students commonly encounter in learning computer programming. We identified strategic design opportunities -- that is, challenges and needs that can be addressed in innovative ways through the affordances of Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR). Thematic Analysis of the interviews yielded six thematic clusters: Tools for Learning, Visualization and Representation, Pedagogical Approaches, Classroom Culture, Motivation, and Community Connections. Este artículo analiza la novela En la gloria de aquel amanecer (1937), de María Sepúlveda, y explora cómo durante la guerra civil española transmitió propagandísticamente la ideología franquista del sacrificio por la patria y un modelo de género tradicional, con papeles claramente diferenciados entre hombres y mujeres. Así, mientras los hombres se alistan al ejército sublevado, confirmando su masculinidad y sacrificando voluntariamente su vida por la patria, las mujeres abandonan su independencia conectada a la Segunda República y adoptan el papel de madres y esposas abnegadas.
