The collection contains records of the Penobscot Paddle and Chowder Society, an organization in Bangor, Maine, for people interested in canoeing, kayaking and other outdoor activities. The materials center on environmental advocacy activities of the group in the 1970's.

The Society, organized in 1968-1969, is a family-oriented group which through its activities promotes interest in paddling, paddling instruction, river safety, and conservation. A volunteer organization, it seeks to make canoeing and kayaking safe, accessible, and fun. A collection of publications, programs, scrapbooks, photos, correspondence and other records of camps in Maine, particularly children's summer camps. The camps started in Maine by Luther and Charlotte Gulick are best represented in the collection, including information about the Camp Fire Girls. Material from other summer camps as well as from commercial hunting, fishing and wilderness lodges can also be found in the collection.

Notebooks dating from 1924-1961 kept by Guy Kendall about race horses and harness racing in Maine and New Hampshire. A few notebooks also have information about races in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The notebooks include photographs of the horses and drivers, racing programs listing the horses in each race and notes on how the horses placed in the races. The notebooks are arranged chronologically.

The collection contains records of the William Tell Club kept by the organizers and members of the club. They include the papers of incorporation, bylaws and minutes of annual meetings, 1903-1941, plus a series of photograph albums from the annual trips to the lodge. The volumes of minutes also give listings of expenses for the hunting trips, records of yearly dues, cash on hand, and general expenses of the club. Membership records and a guest register are also included.

The collection contains primarily financial records and a large number of photographs of camp activities.

The financial records include check registers and invoices, 1967-1974, for goods and services used by the camp each summer. The photographs include copy sheets used in preparing the camp's yearbook, Driftwood, as well as copies of the yearbooks themselves, 1963-2002. Most of the extensive photograph collection is undated and shows unidentified campers and staff engaging in a variety of outdoor activities. The collection also contains a few administrative records of the camp office, including correspondence, camp brochures and drafts, and a staff manual.
