Development In Singers With Perfectionism, Melody F. White

According to Stoeber and Childs (2011), perfectionism is “a personality disposition characterized by striving for flawlessness and setting excessively high standards for performance accompanied by tendencies for overly critical evaluations” (p.2) Dispositions such as perfectionism may be prominent in individuals in the performing arts, as it may help or hinder their development. This study explores development in singers with perfectionism and ways of coping. Studies have shown that there are both positive and negative aspects of perfectionism. Positive aspects include goal progress, agreeableness, and higher functioning. Negative aspects include depression, anxiety, stress maladjustment. These negative aspects manifest in musicians through …

During the sixteenth century, many individuals became fascinated by the human form, which led to an increase in artistic and scientific focus on these subjects. Artistic interest in the human body resulted in a close relationship between artists and anatomists during the time, and the societal acceptance to public demonstrations of dissections, including flaying, was often converged with Mannerist ideals. It is historically evident that écorché figures during Mannerism were based on these, as well as torture methods during the time. Savannah, Georgia is the fourth busiest port in the United States, processing approximately 4.35 million standard shipping containers every year. The port’s protector Fort Pulaski towers among the coastal marshlands and estuaries of the Savannah River. Located on Cockspur Island at the mouth of the Savannah River, this strategic location allowed the fort to protect Savannah’s vital harbor. Built as part of the United States’ Third System plan to build fortifications along the eastern seaboard, construction of Fort Pulaski began in 1827 and finished twenty years later.

By the mid-1850s, more than 300,000 individuals had migrated to California, as the discovery of gold tempted many to abandon their poor working and living conditions for the chance to “strike it rich” out west. Often considered the dawn of a new era with boundless opportunities and riches for anyone, the rapid, widespread transcontinental migration spurred by the Gold Rush replicated and exacerbated pre-existing societal issues—namely racism, mistreatment of Indians, and unequal economic opportunity—in the United States. From colonial times to modern-day independent India, mixed-race groups have struggled to find their existence in a legal context. The East India Company to the British Empire witnessed a change in attitude towards the mixed-race group also known as Eurasians and Anglo-Indians. Through the course of this article, the author reflects how the legal definition of Anglo-Indians was changed and interpreted according to the British when the group posed a threat to the security of the Empire. This paper strives to examine the beginnings of first the Abbasid armed forces beginning with the fall of the Umayyad Caliphate in 749 AD, in order to understand the main recruitment patterns, regions, ethnicities, and incentives for recruitment; a study of the initial Ottoman military will be conducted in order to showcase the differences between the two, as well as to suggest why the Ottomans enjoyed a supremacy which the Abbasids never held for an extended amount of time.

This essay uses issues of the Eugenics Quarterly from 1929 to examine the ways in which the eugenics and the birth control movements overlapped and, ultimately, used each other for their own gain. The articles about birth control in the Eugenics Quarterly show that eugenicists were grappling with whether or not birth control would help or hinder their cause. Overall, they saw birth control as a helpful factor for their eugenics principles. Similarly, the birth control movement used the authority and reputability of eugenic scientists to bolster their own mission.

Sarojini Naidu was a prominent poet and activist during the early twentieth century, yet few have ever heard her name. A child prodigy turned romantic poet, she shocked the world with her words and used her growing fame to advocate for Indian independence alongside famous nationalist Mahatma Gandhi. Her fluidity as a poet helped her captivate international audiences, and her charisma moved the masses to support her causes. A Privileged Equality: The Divisive Ideals Of Christine De Pizan And White Feminists, Emilee Gu

Christine de Pizan was one of the most prolific woman writers of the Middle Ages and her work serves as an early example of feminism. This paper aims at analyzing Christine’s feminism through the Epistre Au Dieu D’Amours, Christine’s letter to Jean de Montreuil, and her letter to Gontier Col. By comparing Christine’s ideas with some representative examples of “white feminism” from the “Second Wave,” I argue that despite Christine’s contributions in sparking feminist ideas, she created a proto-feminist work that excludes those who do not fit into her ideal of “good women.” Christine’s feminism, which operates at the expense …
