Re-Discovering Intentional Use Of The Church Covenant As The Basis For Self-Identity In A Congregational Church Community, Richard Scott Hartley

This dissertation seeks to awaken a clear identity of a Congregational Church as an intentional covenanted community by rediscovering a practical theology founded in the idea of covenant and exploring the praxis of covenant implementation in community. Rediscovering this identity involves the exploration of biblical, historical, theological, and Congregational concepts of covenant. In response to the lack of self-identity, the project proposes the application of covenant to community to enable the church to be empowered to practice living, adapting, loving, and serving the community in which it exists. Agents Of Hope, Steve Sider, Angie Davids, Amanda Knowles, Annalisa Luimes, Leanne Van Bostelen
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
This paper considers the Christian teacher’s “place” in today’s increasingly diverse public school classrooms. Specifically, the paper explores the complexities of working as a Christian within educational systems which promote tolerance of all cultures and religious views. Is it possible for a Christian teacher to remain committed to The Way while employed in a system which encourages pluralism, equity, and diversity? Using insights and responses of participants in a Christian university education course on teaching in multicultural classrooms, a framework is provided to consider what it means to teach as a Christian in multicultural school settings.

Excerpt: "As professor and scholar of medieval and Renaissance literature, C. S. Lewis wrote and published well-respected and influential literary criticism. At the same time, following his conversion to Christianity around 1930, he felt a duty to apply his argumentative and philosophical skills to the writing of Christian apologetics-defenses of traditional Christian principles against the attacks of skeptics and religious liberals. Online Theological Education: Perspectives From First-Generation Asian Americans, Roger S. Nam

This essay explores the use of online asynchronous discussions from the perspective of first-generation Asian American seminarians. The pedagogical paradigm implicit in these online forums assumes values that compete and even contradict the values these students bring from their native educational experiences. Combined with the language difficulties, asynchronous discussions can present a serious challenge to the educational goals of both the institution and the student. Despite these barriers, first-generation Asian American students often see the incorporation of the asynchronous discussions as a welcome enhancement to their theological education.

Kevin McGeough's Exchange Relationships at Ugarit is a welcome entry into the field of recent studies on Ugarit in the context of Late Bronze Age economies. other leaders, biblical figures such as Joseph, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Elijah, Elisha, and Isaiah take part in magic (57-62). Chapter 3 also escalates Dolansky's claim about the effect of magic in Israel to a formatively influential factor.

Bible Theory Or Biblical Living: What Are Christian Schools Providing For Families With Children With Special Needs?, A.Y. "Fred" Ramirez Ph.D.
International Christian Community of Teacher Educators Journal
Private Christian elementary and secondary schools, along with Bible training and Bible exercises, have been a part of the United States and international community since the 1800s. This article examines these questions: (1) What Biblically-based principles are in evidence in Christian schools’ treatment of children with special needs; and (2) how do Christian schools work with the parents of these children. Results from the Christian schools that participated in this study indicate although that they were attending to their children with special needs, these schools may actually be missing many more students who are in need of services.

"Were we to focus on Paul's foundational calling, I believe we would find greater longevity and ever increasing flexibility in our programs and approaches. 'Reflecting God' becomes a lifestyle and an awareness rather than a program. Programs and creative ideas will certainly grow out of such awareness, but if the calling is kept in focus the danger of becoming sidetracked, institutionalized and irrelevant (such a bad word in church growth circles) is greatly reduced, or even contradictory. MUCH OF REVELATION IS "LITERALLY SYMBOLIC." The question is what the symbolism means— and meant, from literary, political, and religious standpoints. Meaningful interpretation of Rev 17 today hinges upon grasping a sense of what it meant for its original audiences in late first-century Asia Minor. An ecclesial problem we Christians have today is that most of us do not any longer expect the Parousia, the second coming of Christ. Even as we recently heard and saw Air France Flight 447, with 228 people on board, vanish into the Atlanta ocean ‘‘by the roaring of the sea and waves’’ (Luke 21:25), we still do not care about the last day when we will stand all together before God, the final judge. This thesis argues that patronage is a crucial and not yet sufficiently utilized interpretive lens to understanding xcxpK (grace) in Paul's letter to Titus. It introduces patronage in the Greco-Roman world and surveys definitions and characteristics. It offers descriptions of the roles of clients and patrons. It discusses different forms of patronage: personal patronage, friendship, public benefaction, literary patronage, divine patronage, political patronage and brokerage. It also considers the relationship of patronage and benefaction. A major focus is a consideration of the usage of grace (xapic.:) in patronage looking to inscriptions, letters, and literature from the era. The influence on …
