The purpose of this study is to ascertain what Paul, means by the phrase λοδικὴ λατρεία and what its implications are for the worshiping Christian community. This phrase occurs only once in Paul, but at an important transitional point in the epistle to the Romans (12:1). Nowhere else in the New Testament or the Greek translation of the Old Testament does this phrase appear. In fact the combination logikȇ latreia did not appear in any of the literature or material investigated.

The purpose of this study is to discover the nature of lowland Filipinos’ spirit-world beliefs, from the pre-Spanish era to the present, and to discover theological aspects in the responses or Roman Catholic churchmen to the spirit-world beliefs.

In serving as a Christian pastor to the lowland Filipinos from 1961 to 1970, the writer observed that some people felt spirit beings to be quite active in their lives. This thesis will examine the prophecy of Amos and attempt to show that Amos was not inimical toward the cult. Through an investigation of the background and vocation of Amos it will be shown that he did not live a life of isolation, but that he had frequent intercourse with his countrymen. Through an examination of the speech forms used by Amos, it will be shown that he had a broad acquaintance with the literary arts and skills of his culture and an intimate knowledge of the cultic system of the religion of Israel.

Our purpose in reviewing them is to find a pattern which may suggest why John felt these reminders necessary, hoping thereby to find a basis for interpreting his intention as he related the anointing at Bethany. This study will be limited to references in introductions, excluding phrases which John includes here and there to add information in the midst of a pericope (for example, that Philip was from Bethsaida, 12:21).

It is puzzling, then, to hear Paul affirming the validity of the law, as he does in his letter to the Romans (3:21,31; 7:12,16) and in the first letter to the Corinthians (14:34). It seems to be a contradiction in terms when Paul combines "law" and "Christ" in the expression "the law of Christ" (Gal. 6:2). The purpose of this study is to find out what Paul means by this phrase and those phrases which are similar (1 Cor. 9:21; Rom. 3:27; 8:2), in view of his teaching on law and the revelation given in Christ.
