A Book Of Mormon Course Of Study For Indian Students In Released-Time Seminaries, Robert Lee Hales

This course has been written to present a simplified version of the Book of Mormon for use with students whose reading skills are below average. It was specifically designed for released-time Indian seminary students. The Indian students often find it very hard to compete with white students in seminary. Where this problem exists teachers have found it advisable to form all-Indian classes.
Released-time Indian seminary classes are a recent addition to the L.D.S. Seminary system. In the 1962-63 school year two such classes were held. The future holds promise that many more will be instituted. Teaching the Book of Mormon …

Abraham Alonzo Kimball was born of Heber C. Kimball and his plural wife, Clarissa Cutler Kimball, in Nauvoo, Hancock County, Illinois on April 16, 1846. At this time the Mormons were being expelled from Nauvoo so young Abe was taken to Winter Quarters with the major portion of the Mormon refugees. Clarissa Cutler Kimball refused to come West with the Mormons. Instead, she took her young son to Iowa to join a break-off church founded by her father, Alpheus Cutler, called the True Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Abe's mother died about three years later and he was …

This study was undertaken for the purpose of determining the effectiveness of L.D.S. Seminary-oriented home night program. The home night program consisted of an experimental group of students holding weekly home nights with their parents, following discussion of gospel principles in Seminary during the school hours. A control group was established which supplemented its program writing weekly summaries instead of directing a home night.

Brigham Young (1801-1877), second president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints, encouraged early Church members to build up the Kingdom of God. Unlike other Christians, Young and the Latter-day Saints believed that the Kingdom of God was temporal, not just spiritual. The article outlines the traits of the Kingdom's government and society and asserts that the faith of the Latter-day Saints and their leader caused them to labor to make their Utopia a reality.

This article closely studies the predominantly British military strategy of the Allied forces in 1942 and 1943. It examines the characteristics of, the reasons behind, and the consequences of these strategies, as well as the reasons why the policies changed in the latter part of 1943. Shortly after the attack at Pearl Harbor, Churchill met with the Americans to determine how to proceed. Although the Americans favored a direct invasion of German-occupied Europe, and the Russians desired a second European front, Churchill and the British wanted to focus on Italy and the Mediterranean as a means to find Europe's "soft …

An Analytical Study Of The Formal Treatment Of The Cantus Firmus In Thirty Chorale Preludes On Well-Known Hymn Tunes Op. 68, 69, And 70, By Flor Peeters, E. Donnell Blackham

This study represents an effort to analyze the forms used by Flor Peeters in his Thirty Chorale Preludes on Well-Known Hymn Tunes, op. 68, 69, and 70. Through this analysis it has been found that Flor Peeters has systematically used certain devices in the treatment of the cantus firmus. Furthermore, these devices can be used as a criterion in developing a classification system for the chorale preludes, which logically divide into six groups or types.

The McCune School of Music and Art was a private institution, owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah. Located at First North and Main Streets, the School offered outstanding courses in music, dance, art, speech and dramatics. From 1917 until 1919 the institution was part of the Latter-day Saints High School music department under the direction of B. Cecil Gates. It is common knowledge that the practice of improvisation, variation, and ornamentation was widespread during the late Renaissance. Numerous authors testify to this, and scores of manuals exist that ''teach11 this particular skill. One of the most important theorists to write such a manual was Lodovico Zacconi, a monk of the order of Saint Augustine. A panel discussion held at Brigham Young University in February 1962 discussed the importance of the U.S. Constitution to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The five participants covered topics such as the preservation of liberty, the LDS belief that the Constitution is divinely inspired, the question of whether church members' political beliefs would affect their standing in the church, and the role of the government in the American economy.
