Creative writers face a wide range of options when they sit down to craft art out of words. Available to them are many genres, each with their own characteristics or traits. Additionally, many writers have accomplished self-reflection in interviews, Q&A sessions, and in print. It is not unusual to find writers taking their craft and turning it into their subject matter. This project aims for the same. In order to analyze the similarities and differences in the writing process across genres, a “writing about writing” essay is included along with four creative nonfiction essays and a young adult fantasy novel …

Known for his multidimensional and interdisciplinary work with notable musicians such as Yanni and Hans Zimmer, Venezuelan-American flutist and instrumentalist Pedro Eustache has mastered an astounding number of woodwinds and musical styles during his lifetime, from jazz to classical to several genres of global music. What is less known about him, however, is that he is a devoted Christian whose faith deeply influences his artistry and work ethic. The current project seeks to be the first scholarly exploration of Eustache's philosophy of music through an examination of published interviews, essays, and videos found online and in the musical press.

Emergence Of Entrepreneurship In Transjordan During The Late Ottoman Empire, Lily D. Burke

How did Ottoman policies influence the emergence of entrepreneurship among elites in Transjordan from circa 1850-1914? During the late Ottoman period, there was an economic transition from subsistence farming and herding to the development of large-scale, for-profit farms, privately owned by elites. The current study hypothesized Ottoman government policy prioritizing cash crop farming over subsistence farming and nomadic living created conditions that allowed elites in Jordan to develop entrepreneurship. To measure my dependent variable, entrepreneurship, I adapted Rostow’s Stages of Economic Development. To track my independent variable, Ottoman influence, I created a scale. The Andrews University Institute of Archaeology Madaba Plains Project houses many of the artifacts that were found, recorded, sketched, photographed, and brought to the Siegfried H. Horn Museum for further research. These artifacts are then used to help archaeologists understand the history of the Madaba Plains, Jordan, and its significance to the Bible. Food preparation artifacts like grinders, pounders, mortar and pestles, and stone bowls, are some of the most frequently excavated artifacts at Tall Jalul. Worship Contextualization In Seventh-Day Adventist Ethnic Congregations In São Paulo, Christian C. L. Britis, Marcelo E. C. Dias

Journal of Adventist Mission Studies

This article offers an example of Adventist ethnic churches in São Paulo. Next, it analyzes the contextualization of worship among those groups. Finally, it explores contextualization possibilities in the face of the growing missionary challenges in these urban contexts of cultural plurality. The data was collected in three ways: (1) exchange of e-mails with current pastors of nine contextual projects; (2) ethnographic observations in two of the contextual projects (the Korean church and the Chinese Adventist community of São Paulo) at the time of an internship in 2020; and (3) bibliographic review.

This article explores the issue of ethnic diversity in leadership, especially in the context of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Guatemala. Different conceptualizations regarding the contributions that ethnic diversity in leadership positions can bring into an organization will be analyzed. The analysis will be combined with my personal observations made from a fieldwork visit to Guatemala during the months of October and November in 2017. India, consisting of several diverse communities, operates on various religious sentiments, norms, expectations, cultures, and worldviews. Each culture and worldview developed, nurtured, and was organized in a community that recognized the importance of religious tolerance—tolerances that keep India united and yet diverse. Religious tolerance in India respects and allows the various religions to exist and practice within the same community.1 However, if this norm is broken, the resulting actions can result in unexpected consequences. Even though the leadership literature has studied the antecedents and outcomes of virtuous leadership, there is a scarcity of research on the influence of virtuous leadership on organizational performance in Christian organizations. Therefore, this study developed a theory of virtuous leadership and its influence on organizational performance grounded in the perceptions of leaders of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Using classic grounded theory methodology, data was collected by interviewing eight leaders of the Adventist Church from the MENA region. The increasing anxiety and reactivity across society witnessed in elections, responses to COVID-19, and even within personal posts on social media platforms is a phenomenon that is growing invasively and pervasively present in ministry leadership. Murray Bowen’s family systems theory (1978) seminal concepts of societal emotional process and emotional reactivity describe the phenomenon with acumen. This article outlines these two concepts and provides current examples of how they are being experienced by ministry leaders. Intercultural Mentorship As A Leadership Role, Daniel Nae

Intercultural mentorship requires special knowledge, skills, and attitudes (Osula and Irvin 2009; Dominguez Garcia 2012:109-116; Crutcher 2006:67- 74). Leader mentoring in intercultural contexts entails a way of living that inspires the mentee to develop a “similar mentoring mindset” (Rayford 2014:15). This article describes the importance of intercultural mentoring as a leadership role. The study starts with an evaluation of Osuna and Irvin’s model of cultural awareness. Then, it explores the concept of intercultural competence in mentoring, describes and illustrates the leader mentoring relationship in an intercultural context, and applies the concept to a university setting.
