For our project, our group was presented with the 89% project. The 89% project focuses on the 89% of people who want to make a change for our climate, but simply don't commit, essentially getting the route for climate change reduction nowhere.

We chose Behavioural Sciences as our theoretical lens. This means we would be putting time into researching exactly who our audience is, and what attitudes and reactions they hold in regards to climate change. We needed to figure out a way to inform the 89% of this issue, and convince them to join us in improving the way …

Cim221 - Example 7 - Housing Crisis Board Game, Januar Gunawan, Billie Burton

Exemplars

Australia’s current housing crisis has made affordable housing increasingly unattainable for young Australians. Rising rents, insecure work, and limited government support have delayed independence, increased homelessness, and widened inequality, especially for those without family financial support. Since COVID-19, rent prices have surged nationwide, while studies show most young Australians feel financially insecure, pessimistic about home ownership, and concerned their future quality of life will decline.   Housing Crisis: The Board Game is an artistic prototype which aims to address this wicked problem by raising awareness of the issue – and some empathy as well – to all Australians, with particular focus …

Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt Apr 2026

Aristophanes And Athenian Society During The Peloponnesian War, Joshua Schmidt

Senior Honors Theses

At the end of the fifth century BC, Greek society underwent major changes as a result of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. While the origin of the war and its course of events are described in contemporary sources, the impact of the war on Athenian society is mostly overlooked. However, another contemporary source, the comedies of the Athenian playwright Aristophanes, provides an alternative perspective from which to consider Athenian society. A thematic study of Aristophanes’ eleven extant plays offers a window into changes in various aspects of Athenian society during and immediately after the Peloponnesian War, such as …

Making It Work For The Future: Enslaved Contributions To Southern Baking And The Rise Of Black Culinary Entrepreneurship, Christiana Bell Apr 2026

Making It Work For The Future: Enslaved Contributions To Southern Baking And The Rise Of Black Culinary Entrepreneurship, Christiana Bell

Honors Theses - Providence Campus

This thesis investigates the two roles African Americans have in shaping Southern baking: first, as the foundational yet historically erased creators of techniques, ingredient traditions, and signature dishes; and second, as contemporary entrepreneurs reclaiming this heritage through the baking industry. Using a conceptual framework of Culinary Justice, Critical Race Theory (with a focus on counter-narratives), and Culinary Entrepreneurship, this study analyzes historical knowledge, cookbooks, and primary source narratives, alongside present-day interviews with Black culinary and pastry professionals. The research tests two hypotheses: first, that the contribution of enslaved Africans was significant and measurable across specific techniques, ingredient adaptation, and “making …

Using Action Research To Inform Graduate Research Theories, Methods, And Praxis Among Master’S And Phd Multilingual And International Students, Thomas Maldonado Apr 2026

Using Action Research To Inform Graduate Research Theories, Methods, And Praxis Among Master’S And Phd Multilingual And International Students, Thomas Maldonado

Frontera Retórica Symposium

In an attempt to provide multilingual and international graduate students food for thought, this work-in-progress presentation examines a day in the life of a multilingual PhD student’s use of action research during the teaching of RWS 1301 in both Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 to better inform his data collection via student questionnaires.   Action research, “generally involves inquiring into one’s own practice through a process of self-monitoring that […] includes entering a cycle of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting on an issue or problem in order to improve practice” (Farrell, 2007, p.94).   My research question answers how using action research …

From Dilemma To Decision: Rhetorical Positionality As A Framework For Designing A Doctoral Dissertation Topic, Purna Bhusal Apr 2026

From Dilemma To Decision: Rhetorical Positionality As A Framework For Designing A Doctoral Dissertation Topic, Purna Bhusal

Frontera Retórica Symposium

Finding a dissertation topic for doctoral students in liberal arts education is one of the most difficult and defining moments of their academic journey. In my experience and observation, most graduate students struggle to identify a research topic that is both intellectually meaningful and aligns with their personal and scholarly commitments. To address this challenge, in this presentation, I propose rhetorical positionality as a framework for designing and formulating a doctoral research topic. To develop this framework, I draw on theoretical and methodological insights of the rhetorical situation as discussed by Scott Consigny, Richard Vaz, and Lloyd Bitzer, as well …

Themed Entertainment Design, Katelyn Jones Apr 2026

Themed Entertainment Design, Katelyn Jones

Whittier Scholars Program

This project is a comprehensive design package for a themed entertainment experience. It is formatted similarly to how a project pitch works in the Themed Entertainment industry. This is my concept work for an immersive, interactive, themed walkthrough that takes the guest through the story of King Arthur and the wider Arthurian legend. I have done extensive tonal research, leading me to develop a narrative structure for the experience. From this narrative, I created iterative sketches, a key illustration, a CAD model of one of the spaces, and a scale physical model. All of these pieces together give the viewer …
