A Study Of Problems Relative To The Fulfillment Of Selected Prophecies In The Book Of Mormon: With Particular Reference To The Prophetic View From 1830 Onward, Ross William Warner

Prophecy appears to play an important role in the Book of Mormon. The prophets evidently felt it necessary to include a considerable amount of prophetic material in this modern book of scripture.
Three general divisions of book of mormon prophecy can be made: (1) prophecies which relate to the period of time prior to the year 421 A.D., the approximate date of the final writing on the plates of Mormon, (2) prophecies which relate to the period 421 to 1830, the publication date of the Book of Mormon, and (3) prophecies which relate to the period 1830 onward.

Fifty gulden (about $470) to make Martin a doctor of theology was doubtless one of Elector Frederick's wisest investments - much wiser than the generous amount he spent for his prodigious collection of sacred relics. The payment of this fee guaranteed his Electoral Grace a tremendous benefit to his beloved University of Wittenberg. To obtain this sum of money for the promotion of his brilliant friar, Vicar John Staupitz had to the Elector that Luther would fill the chair of lectura in Biblia of the theological faculty for the remainder of his life.

In general, the problem under investigation is in what way and to what extent Karl Barth agrees in his doctrine of the Trinity with the traditional orthodox trinitarian theology formulated by representative theologians during the first four centuries of the Christian Church as well as those condemned doctrines formulated by their opposing heretics. The unity of Scripture is an article of faith. This unity is also an objective fact that exists apart from faith and does not become a fact merely when I believe it (existentialist theology). But it is more than an arithmetic problem. It is not a mere unit sum at which we arrive by adding a number of given parts and fractions into a whole. This means that it is more than the addition of demonstrable facts and figures.

This present study is concerned with the last-named work and grew out of long pre-occupation with the task of producing an English version. The importance of Schlink's book has been widely recognized in Lutheran circles. To make it available to additional thousands of English-speaking Lutherans who are not able to make full use of the material in its original German, the work of translation was begun by the late Paul F. Koehneke of Milwaukee, and after his death, carried forward to completion by the present writer.
