A New Measure Of Mature Religiosity, James A. Croxton
A New Measure Of Mature Religiosity, James A. Croxton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In this study, a new measure of mature religiosity was created. One hundred and fifty students were administered an 80 item scale based upon a consensus meaning of mature religiosity. The results of this administration were factor analyzed. Seven First Order Factors and two Second Order Factors emerged which could be adequately assessed by 50 of the 80 item. The revised 50 item scale was administered to 130 students. During the same administration, the students also responded to measures of personal maturity (Dogmatism Scale, Internal-External Locus of Control Scale, Social Desirability Scale) and other measures of mature religiosity (Intrinsic-Extrinsic Religious …

Justification In The Eastern Orthodox Churches (A Comparative Study), Eshetu Abate
Justification In The Eastern Orthodox Churches (A Comparative Study), Eshetu Abate
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The topic of this Thesis, Justification in the Eastern Orthodox Churches, is prompted by the document which recently came out of the U.S. Lutheran-Roman Catholic Dialogue on the doctrine of Justification by faith alone, work which took more than five years ending in September 1983. To one who comes from the East, especially from Ethiopia, a country where half of the population is Orthodox, the reading of the publicity on this dialogue and its outcome raised the question: "How do the Orthodox Churches in the East think about justification by faith alone?" The incubation of this idea yielded the present …

Pastoral Politics And Public Policy: Reflections On The Legal Aspects Of The Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Letter On War And Peace, Robert A. Destro
Pastoral Politics And Public Policy: Reflections On The Legal Aspects Of The Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Letter On War And Peace, Robert A. Destro
Scholarly Articles
Taken as a whole, the Roman Catholic Bishops' 1983 pastoral letter on war and peace, "The Challenge of Peace, God's Promise, and Our Response"' has two purposes: first, to assist Catholics in the formation of their consciences; and, second, to contribute to the ongoing public policy debate concerning the morality of war in general, and of nuclear war in particular. This article will address the stated purposes of and the suggestions made in the pastoral letter from the vantage point of American statutory and constitutional law. It will make no attempt to provide definitive legal answers to the many questions …
The Unity Of The Virtues In Abelard's Dialogus, G. Scott Davis
The Unity Of The Virtues In Abelard's Dialogus, G. Scott Davis
Religious Studies Faculty Publications
That a thinker discusses a topic is often noted, while how he discusses that topic is left insufficiently clear. A case in point is Peter Abelard, "who," D. E. Luscombe has claimed, "first in his time attempted a serious philosophical discussion of natural virtue and who first really put the human virtues upon the theological map." Despite continuing interest in Abelard, and his ethics in particular, little has been done to illuminate what he takes a virtue to be, how the virtues are interrelated, and how Abelard's account compares to other treatments of the virtues. This paper attempts, if only …
