Campaign Spending And Electoral Outcomes: 1977 Kentucky House And 1978 U.S. House And Senate Elections, Philip Henry Jos

Government Theses

This research examined the relationship between campaign spending and electoral success in 1977 Kentucky House races and 1978 U.S. House and Senate races. The results indicated that the winning candidate’s percentage of campaign expenditure has a significant effect on the candidate’s vote percentage. This effect is greater in U.S. House races than in U.S. Senate races. In Kentucky House races, the effect of spending on electoral success was only significant in open seat races. Regression results confirmed the importance of challenger spending in congressional races and indicated that the effect of challenger expenditures on votes is much greater than the …

This report from the United States (US) Select Committee on Indian Affairs and the Committee on the Judiciary, dated June 25, 1980 was written to accompany US Senate Bill 1796 which authorized the Assiniboine tribe to seek damages for US constitutional violations and the delay of payment for taken lands. This report includes recommendations from the US assistant attorney general and proposed amendments for the bill. US Senate Bill 1796 became US Public Law 96-434 on October 10, 1980.

This report from the United States (US) Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs and the Committee on the Judiciary, dated June 25, 1980 was written to accompany US Senate Bill 1795 which authorized the Blackfeet and Gros Ventre tribes to seek damages for US Constitutional violations and the delay of payment for taken lands. This report recommends an amendment to the language of US Senate Bill 1795. US Senate Bill 1795 became US Public Law 96-405 on October, 9, 1980.

Problem. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact and influence of Indiana public school teachers and teachers unions on the political system of Indiana, 1956-1976. Method. Legislators were contacted personally durinB the 1976 General Assembly, using a questionnaire to structure a short interview. Those legislators who were not accessible during the thirty-day session of the Legislature were mailed a copy of the questionnaire along with a letter of explanation and two reference letters. Based on the entire population of 150 legislators, 120 legislators responded, representing a return of 80 percent. The responses of both the interview group …

LARRY TYLER, who finds myth and astronomy mingled in the rationale for prehistoric archeological sites, did his undergraduate work at Pittsburg State University and received his Ph. D. from the University of Missouri. He teaches sociology at Western Michigan University. He became interested in prehistoric sites while doing research in the Hebrides.

WESLEY T. WOOLEY, who examines the attitudes revealed by the Gallup Pole, received his Ph. D. from the University of Chicago and teaches history at the University of Victoria. His articles on American history have appeared in a number of journals, including MQ. …
