Women And Politics In Japan: Flowers Of The Home To Flowers Of Politics, Sarah Ann Langer Jan 1996

Women And Politics In Japan: Flowers Of The Home To Flowers Of Politics, Sarah Ann Langer

Honors Theses, 1963-2015

The study of women and politics in Japan provided many insights into women's activism as well as the changes women have brought in Japanese politics. Facing considerable odds when seeking positions within contemporary politics, women candidates often faced a variety of disadvantages as well. A man was assumed to inherit politics, but a woman was not. However, if a woman could conquer or ignore such societal pressures, she could then enter the world of politics. Women's positions will change as individual pioneers (such as the four I examined i.e. Tsuda Ume, Ichikawa Fusae, Yosano Akiko, Tanaka Makiko) work their way …

In the political arena, every nation is considered to be sovereign. That is, what happens within the legitimate borders of a nation, what docs not affect other nations, is to be decided by the people of that nation or the government of' that nation and no one else. If a nation wants to centralize economic decisions, that is its business. If a nation wants a free market economy, no other nation can interfere. A Victim Of Her Own Morality: Emma Goldman And The Socialization Of Sexuality, Jan P. Doolittle Dec 1995

A Victim Of Her Own Morality: Emma Goldman And The Socialization Of Sexuality, Jan P. Doolittle

All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Emma Goldman has been portrayed by historians as a champion of freedom for the individual and a challenger of Victorian sexual ideology. While there is much truth to this, historians have nevertheless failed to recognize how Goldman, in attempting to free sex from the shackles of Victorianism, created new categories of regulation and promoted the socialization and politicization of sexuality. This is certainly not to undermine her many achievements and accomplishments. One of the most respected members of the American anarchist movement, Goldman succeeded in bringing issues of sexual freedom and women's emancipation to the fore of not only anarchism, …

Civil Society And Congregations As Public Moral Companions, Gary M. Simpson Oct 1995

Civil Society And Congregations As Public Moral Companions, Gary M. Simpson

Faculty Publications

In the midst of this morally charged situation might not Christian congregations hear again the call to a public vocation? As we ponder this prospect, two questions will guide our inquiry. First, where might Christian congregations locate a space in which they might attend to the public moral meaning of everyday rage? That public space, which we will explore, is “civil society.” Second, how can this public space of civil society be accessed so that its moral possibilities can be maximized? We will explore “communicative moral practice” as the best model for accessing the moral possibilities of civil society. What …
