THIS FIRST NUMBER of the ninth volume of THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY begins a new year with-somewhat to her surprise- a somewhat new editor. During a summer leave or a sabbatical absence of Professor Cornish, it is true, she has sometimes stepped in, has chewed pencils, checked copy, struggled with an engulfing correspondence, written forewords and afterwords, read proof, worried with subscriptions and copyright and the multifarious details involved in any publication, and all the while has rejoiced rather too audibly in the prospect of a speedy release. Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Friedman's book, The Balled Revival: Studies in the influence of Popular on Sophisticated Poetry, points to the crux of my thesis: was the most sophisticated poet of a very sophisticated literary age seriously influenced in his work by the popular ballads enjoyed by the common people? h brief but comprehensive examination of the status of the ballad in the early eighteenth century will show that ballads were at that time more widely enjoyed and admired than has often been thought. Primary Concerns In The Poetry Of Robert Frost, La Verne Murphy

Masters Theses & Specialist Projects

The purpose of this study is to classify the poems' themes and to reveal frequency patterns, thereby disclosing Frost's heaviest interests. The study is limited to an analysis of the poems contained in the Complete Poems, which includes most of his poetry. The Masque of Reason and The Masque of Mercy, appearing at the end of the Complete Poems, are not included in the study because they are allegorical poem-plays of the Job and Jonah stories respectively. While the study is confined primarily to an interpretation of the poems themselves, important critical studies relating to the themes are …
