Founded in 1953, Et Cetera is an annual literary magazine that publishes the creative writing and artwork of Marshall University students and affiliates. Et Cetera is free to the Marshall University community.

Et Cetera welcomes submissions in literary and film criticism, poetry, short stories, drama, all types of creative non-fiction, photography, and art.

ROBERT K. RATZLAFF, who is the most recent addition to our Board of Editors, did his undergraduate work at Kansas State University and received his Ph. D. from The University of Kansas and is associate professor of history at Pittsburg State University. Most of his publications are in American history.

ROBERT J. CHAFFIN, who asks whether the American Revolution was really revolutionary, received his Ph. D. from Indiana University and teaches history at The University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh. He has published numerous articles and is working on his second book.

Nexus Literary Journal

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Unifying Principles In The English Renaissance Sonnet Sequence, Deborah Fairfield Heatwole

English Theses & Dissertations

In this thesis, the structural and thematic development of the English sonnet sequence during the years of its greatest vogue is examined in detail. The sonnet itself, as the basic unit of the structure of a sequence, is analyzed, and the various characteristics of the sequences themselves are investigated. The sequences of Sir Philip Sidney, Edmund Spenser, Samuel Daniel, and Michael Drayton are discussed in separate chapters.

The basic contention of this thesis is that, while many sonnet "cycles" are mere collections of discrete sonnets, the major sonnet writers of this period constructed sequences that are highly organized along stylistic, …

The Influence Of Ben Jonson On The Poetry Of Yeats, Wayne Kenneth Chapman

Dissertations and Theses

What this thesis attempts to do is to render as full a picture as possible of Yeats's interest in Ben Jonson, using to the fullest advantage the many hints that come from Yeats and secondary criticism. Specifically, the focus of this paper is on the process by which Yeats was able, like Eliot, Pound and others, to found a tough, new poetic style with reference to this seventeenth-century period of Jonson. Yeats's reading of "Jonson and the others," which took place at the turn of this century, triggered a whole series of discoveries by Yeats which anticipated the aesthetic beliefs …
