Nexus Literary Journal

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

English Theses & Dissertations

Language is the process through which we try to understand each other. As children we develop a sense of denotation; we learn how much better we can talk about the world if we can accurately identify "flower" as a “tulip", for example. Later on, syntax is added to the choices of words we pick and it colors the meaning and depth of what we can say; language is connotative as well as denotative. The complexity and richness of the options while putting together a poem bring us even closer to being able to express and understand ourselves …

Syracuse Scholar (1979-1991)

Philip Booth teaches in the Creative Writing Program at Syracuse University each spring but spends as much of the year as possible at his home in Maine. He is a frequent contributor of poetry to such magazines as The New Yorker and Harper's and is the author of several books. In 1980 he received a Fellowship in Writing from the National Endowment for the Arts. Most of the poems in Before Sleep were composed in the 130-year-old family house where the author's grandparents lived, and where his grandson represents a fifth generation.

Syracuse Scholar (1979-1991)

Tanure Ojaide, a native of Nigeria, received his Ph.D. in English from Syracuse University in 1981. Well known in his country as a poet and a teacher, he now teaches in the English Department at the University of Maiduguri.
