As MICHELLE SCALISE SUGIYAMA shows, author Sandra Cisneros uses women's shoes and feet as potent symbols and actual examples of male manipulation of female sexuality and freedom. An Affiliate of the Institute for Cognitive and Decision Sciences at the University of Oregon and of the Center for Evolutionary Psychology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Sugiyama approaches the universal behavior of storytelling from a cognitive and anthropological perspective.
