A Study Of The Department Of Religious Education Of The Reorganized Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Glen C. Wahlquist

Theses and Dissertations

There have been a few studies related to the religion education movement of the Reorganized Church, but little has been done to research the total program of the Department of Religious Education and its development.
The purpose of this study was to trace the historical development of the religious education program of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints from 1860 to its present organization as the Department of Religious Education; to summarize the church's philosophy of education; and to determine the present status of the Department of Religious Education of the Reorganized Church.

Mormon Colonization Of The San Luis Valley, Colorado, 1878-1900, Judson Harold Flower Jr.

Theses and Dissertations

In the late 1870's, missionary successes in the southern states prompted the search for a location to which the new converts could migrate and establish their homes among the Saints in "Zion." The area eventually decided upon for the location of the southern converts was the San Luis Valley, in southern Colorado. Elder John Morgan, the most prominent figure in the early missionary work in the South, was given the leading role in bringing southern converts to the settlements which were to be established in the San Luis Valley. The initial settlement of Saints in the valley took place in …

An Analysis Of Selected Changes In Major Editions Of The Book Of Mormon - 1830-1920, Jeffrey R. Holland Jan 1966

An Analysis Of Selected Changes In Major Editions Of The Book Of Mormon - 1830-1920, Jeffrey R. Holland

Theses and Dissertations

As the title indicates, this thesis is a consideration of selected changes that have been made in major editions of the Book of Mormon. Much has been said recently about changes and modifications in this record but, unfortunately, most of it has been said by those who have been unfriendly toward both the book itself and the church which endorses it. Because this kind of bias is usually an obstruction to objective scholarship, this study has been undertaken by one firmly within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to document not only what changes have been made, but …

A Historical Analysis Of Cove Fort, Utah, Larry C. Porter Jan 1966

A Historical Analysis Of Cove Fort, Utah, Larry C. Porter

Theses and Dissertations

With the passage of years a succession of families called Cove Fort their home. Members of these households served as agents for the facility and supervised its operation. A view of the personalities and occurrences associated with the various occupants is a necessary part of understanding that which has transpired at the site.

The purpose of this thesis has been to gather and record that information which is currently available on the subject of the Fort. Each succeeding year diminishes the prospects of preserving certain valuable aspects of the history of that establishment which have not been previously committed to …

A Proposal For A Section Of An Lds Church History Textbook For High School Students Containing The History Of The Church From 1898 To 1951, Arthur R. Bassett

Theses and Dissertations

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been organized for over one hundred and thirty-six years. The history of nearly a century of that time--1866 to the present--has not been adequately dealt with in any single book currently available for use on the high school level as an L. D. S. seminary text. The objective of this field project was to produce textual materials covering a fifty-three year portion of this period--the portion 1898-1951.

Church history material relative to this period was gathered and organized in a biographical framework centering in the lives and administration of the four …

Jonathan Boucher: Moderate Loyalist And Public Man, Anne Young Zimmer Jan 1966

Jonathan Boucher: Moderate Loyalist And Public Man, Anne Young Zimmer

Wayne State University Dissertations

This inquiry began then, with an attempt to understand Jonathan Boucher, the Tory of Tories, the adversary of Locke and egalitarian principles, the spokesman for Filmer in America, and the divine rights advocate. The whole complex of Boucher's life has been examined, with particular emphasis on the pre-Revolutionary years of crisis in Virginia and Maryland between 1765 and 1775, together with the milieu of the two colonies, in order to discover what factors may have contributed to Boucher's High Tory role, if, indeed, he was a High Tory. And it has been an effort to understand all of the circumstances …
