The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"... He peered down into the cavern. He could see only the faint orange glow of the torches that lined the walls of the main cavern which gave rise to several secondary passage ways, and so on, forming a vast network of multi-level tunnels that weaved and intertwined endlessly underground. The echoing snap of water drops, losing their last, futile grip at the sharp tip of stalactites and splattering onto the cold hard floor of the cave, played at his mind. Soon he would enter into a new world; …

The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"The major advantages of commuting by public transportation are not having to drive yourself (so that you have time to accomplish something else, such as homework), not having to worry about gasoline and auto maintenence, and not having to cope with drive-time (rush-hour) traffic. But there are times when you wish you didn't have to take that bumpy bus."

Nexus Literary Journal
Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine
Now & Then: The Appalachian Magazine, Volume 03, Issue 01, published in 1986. The theme of this issue is Black Appalachians. This issue traces the history, culture, and creative contributions of African Americans in this region. Through essays, interviews, fiction, poetry, and visual arts, it examines the distinctive experiences of Black communities in Appalachia, highlighting their roles in labor, education, and artistic expression while challenging stereotypes of the region as culturally uniform. The issue documents the lives of individuals and communities, including historical figures, artists, and everyday residents, and considers the ways Black Appalachians have shaped and participated in …

Book Reviews: Divided Houses, Shaun O'Connell
New England Journal of Public Policy
These books are an odd lot, landscapes and structures of eccentric designs: (1) a collection of stories by Frank Conroy, his first book since Stop Time (1967). Where Stop Time was a detailed, narrative autobiography that read like fiction, Midair is an often generalized, fragmented fiction with obvious autobiographical implications; (2) the weird diary of Arthur Crew Inman, over 1,600 pages of his often vile obsessions, handsomely edited and curiously published by Harvard University Press; (3) a study of nuclear anxiety over five decades, in the form of a polemical novel, by Tim O'Brien; (4) a collection of poems, also …

The Angle
In lieu of an abstract, below is the essay's first paragraph.
"White curtains hang in the front room, the floor bare and scuffed from the endless shuffling of six pairs of shoes. In the left corner sits a small, narrow bed covered with a tan afghan and part of another. A small portable T.V. also sits on the bed, and in the center of the tan wall is a light bulb in a fixture."
