Political Disciple: The Relationship Between James A. Garfield And The Disciples Of Christ, Jerry Rushford Aug 1977

Political Disciple: The Relationship Between James A. Garfield And The Disciples Of Christ, Jerry Rushford

Churches of Christ Heritage Collection

James A. Garfield (1831-1881), the only preacher to ever occupy the White House, was a product of the profound social, intellectual and religious ferment of the early decades of the nineteenth century which produced the American religious movement known as the Disciples of Christ. The first fifty years of Disciple history closely paralleled Garfield’s life. The purpose of this study is to focus on the intimate Garfield-Disciples relationship, and to show its reciprocal nature. Garfield was helped by Disciples in the building of a political base (he won ten consecutive elections in the Western Reserve), and they in turn shared …

A Church Growth Study Of Churches In North East India, Clinton Brazle Aug 1977

A Church Growth Study Of Churches In North East India, Clinton Brazle

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Church of Christ in North East Indian began as an indigenous movement among the Khasi tribe as an effort to restore New Testament Christianity. The movement is under fifty years old. It grew normally and rapidly until division occured among the leaders in 1963, when the growth rate dropped drastically. The movement has spread now to the Garos, Mizos, Mikirs, Nagas, Assamese, Kukis, and especially the Paites and Manipuree. There is a growing ethusiam among a few Christians which may eventually spread through many of the tribes of North East India and beyond.

Examination of the above-mentioned tribes of …

Jesus' Encounter With Culture As Evidenced By The Gospel According To Mark, K T. Joykutty May 1977

Jesus' Encounter With Culture As Evidenced By The Gospel According To Mark, K T. Joykutty

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "The shackles of sin seem to be overpowering mankind at a much higher potential and speed than the challenge of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The dynamic truth of the Gospel which is Jesus Christ Himself, is alarmingly unwelcome in the midst of a highly technologically and materially advanced society. Man is becoming stubbornly impervious to the truth of the Gospel, and is subdued by the potent fetters of a social giant called "Culture." Christians and Christian organizations are no exceptions. The subtle secular culture has surreptitiously found its way into the Christian community. Christian organizations …

The Contribution Of Katherine Luther To The Homelife And Ministry Of Her Husband Martin, David A. Vander Does May 1977

The Contribution Of Katherine Luther To The Homelife And Ministry Of Her Husband Martin, David A. Vander Does

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Katherine von Bora Luther does not command a great deal of space in any Church History textbook. What is known about her life is in connection with that of her husband and Reformer Martin Luther. Katherine Luther stands in the shadow of her great husband Martin but it was possible to catch a glimpse of her character and contribution to the homelife and ministry of her husband Martin.

The Forerunners Of The Protestant Reformation, Suresh Heraman May 1977

The Forerunners Of The Protestant Reformation, Suresh Heraman

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Excerpt: "This research paper is a study based mainly on the forerunners of the Protestant Reformation in Western Europe from 910 to 1498 A.D. Some consideration is given to the earlier history of the Church, to show the cause for the reforms to follow.

Sources used for the research of this paper are listed in the bibliography. Since this research is historical it has relied on the works of others who have written on the history of the Christian Church. No effort is made to give a history of theology but to discover why the reforms were needed."

What Is The Difference Between The Carnal Nature And The Human Nature? (An Inductive Study Of The New Testament), John Wesley Larson May 1977

What Is The Difference Between The Carnal Nature And The Human Nature? (An Inductive Study Of The New Testament), John Wesley Larson

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The problem of every Christian is separating in his daily life those things that are considered carnal and those considered human. Is there a way to distinguish between the two? This is the question to be investigated in this research paper. Is there a clear New Testament answer to, "What is the difference between the carnal nature and the human nature?"

This question lies deep in the history of theology. It touches on such subjects as Biblical Anthropology, Christology, Soteriology, and in some way, Eschatology. "
