Concordia Theological Monthly
What does St. Paul mean when he calls the Athenians δεισιδαιμονεσ-τέϱουζ in Acts 17:22? In order to understand the interpretative problem and to arrive at a reasoned conclusion, one must know something of the history of the term δεισιδαιμονια.
Was Martha's Confession In John 11:27 Used In The Early Church As A Creed, Robert Holst
Was Martha's Confession In John 11:27 Used In The Early Church As A Creed, Robert Holst
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The aim of this thesis is to determine whether John 11:27 reflects an early Christian creed or, as an exclamation from Martha, served in the early Church as a creed. In his otherwise excellent chapter “Creedal Elements in the New Testament” in Early Christian Creeds, J. N. D. Kelly does not list John 11:27 as “evidence in the New Testament to show that the faith was already beginning to harden into conventional summaries. This seems an unfortunate omission since Martha’s confession contains not only one of two, but three Christological affirmations joined together asyndetically.

Matthew 23: The Comprehensive Polemic Of Jesus Christ, Ray Martens
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
There is no lack of material that illustrates Jesus’ positive teaching on the nature of the kingdom He is establishing, of His role in God’s plan, of the relation of man to God, of the role of God’s children among men, of the function of the law, of the nature of discipleship, and many more specific areas. There is furthermore a significant amount of material which His own teaching. And discredits those who would oppose Him. It is such an extended statement of the Teacher, a statement of attack and criticism recorded by Matthew, that is the subject of this …
Developing A Ministry On Mission Fields In The Light Of The New Testament Concepts Of Church And Ministry, Maynard Dorow
Developing A Ministry On Mission Fields In The Light Of The New Testament Concepts Of Church And Ministry, Maynard Dorow
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
This study concerns the ministry of the church. To phrase the question in this way already demonstrates that ministry cannot be understood by itself but that it is to be studied in the context of the church. When we look at ministry in the New Testament we find that it is always involved with serving the purposes of the church. In this chapter, therefore, we will set forth in brief outline the concept of the church as presented in the New Testament in order that our study of ministry might be seen in proper perspective.

The Glory And Glorification Of Jesus Christ In The Gospel Of John, Arthur Strege

The Suffering Love Of God: The Tension Between Judgement And Grace In The Pre-Exilic Prophets, Theodore Ludwig
The Suffering Love Of God: The Tension Between Judgement And Grace In The Pre-Exilic Prophets, Theodore Ludwig
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
It is therefore the purpose of this study to defend the thesis that the juxtaposition of the message of total judgment and that of full grace has a theological basis. There is a great tension between judgment and grace; yet these two seemingly opposed items have a deep unity in the nature of Yahweh. Therefore the ultimate purpose of this study is to determine the prophetic understanding of the nature of Yahweh. The conclusion reached and supported throughout is that it is the suffering love of Yahweh which forms the basis of the message of both judgment and grace which …
Investment For Eternity A Study Of Luke 16:1-13, Richard R. Caemmerer
Investment For Eternity A Study Of Luke 16:1-13, Richard R. Caemmerer
Concordia Theological Monthly
Pastors are sometimes dismayed at the multiplicity of their duties. The burden lies not in their number but in the difficulty with which many of them seem to relate to the ministry of the Word and the one thing needful. The task which threatens this relevance most seriously is the fostering of Christian giving, or as it is called secularly, fund raising. The effort to supply Christian motivation through familiar terms like "stewardship" and "liberality" becomes wearing to pastors and people the kingdom of God, or of the Holy Spirit alike. Yet the need of "raising money" does not slacken.
Light From Galatians 3:1 On Pauline Theology, Paul G. Bretscher
Light From Galatians 3:1 On Pauline Theology, Paul G. Bretscher
Concordia Theological Monthly
The interpretation of this impassioned verse from an impassioned epistle has for some time ceased to be a problem for commentators. "New evidence," reported by George Milligan in 1923, came by way of a 17-century-old scrap of papyrus. It told of the parents of a wayward son who notified the governor that they would no longer be responsible for the son's debts and asked that a public announcement to this effect be "placarded up" (πϱογϱαφῆναι) where all might read it.
