The Agora
This piece was inspired by the internal turmoil caused by childhood trauma. I was inspired by my love for anatomy and the human body. The phrase “eating me away” sparked the initial passion.I collide the worlds of realism with fantasy in this drawing, using myself as the reference image and images from 3D anatomical websites.

Queen Of The Night, Kayla Blundell
The Agora
“Queen of the Night” was a self-directed project in my Intermediate Sculpture class taught by Professor Carissa Samaniego at New Mexico State University. The criteria I had was to address the contemporary issues of authorship, which I chose to address by including my husband as a resource. He helped me fulfill my vision for the project as I was not physically capable of doing some of the techniques without his help due to the lack of machinery available to me. He also helped with the electrical components since he is good at electrical schematics, and I am unfamiliar with electrical …
The Perfect Model: Exploring Gender Differences Within Commercial Graphic Design Preferences, Adeline Roberts
The Perfect Model: Exploring Gender Differences Within Commercial Graphic Design Preferences, Adeline Roberts
Undergraduate Theses
Personal preferences within graphic design are heavily shaped by social factors, including cultural practices. This project explores the effect of gendered-based experiences on visual design preferences, through investigating men’s and women’s preferences regarding graphic design elements, and the source of these opinions. The data was then used to create two educational images, which mimic contemporary magazine covers, visually illustrating the effects of gendered marketing and experiences on personal design preferences. These images were then attached to an interactive website, so that the findings and pieces from this project can be easily accessed by future audiences.

Determining Art Teacher Success In The Art Classroom, Mark Jefferis
Art 895 Research Papers
The purpose of this research study which used historical research methods is to help develop criteria that can be used to determine the success of an art teacher in an art classroom and methods to assess the developed criteria. Increasing Program Accessibility For Historically Marginalized Populations In A Mid-Sized Art Museum: A Case Study, Angela King
Increasing Program Accessibility For Historically Marginalized Populations In A Mid-Sized Art Museum: A Case Study, Angela King
Art 895 Research Papers
Accessibility has been a major theme in museums since the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. This case study focuses on how Mobile Museum of Art can increase the accessibility to programming, curriculum, and collections for populations which have been historically marginalized, such as individuals with physical and intellectual disabilities, families experiencing homelessness, individuals with sight impairments, and immigrant communities. This research focuses on two outreach programs at Mobile Museum of Art, a mid-size art museum in Mobile, Alabama. The results will inform my own professional practice as the Curator of Art Education at Mobile Museum of Art.
Elementary Art And The Pride Program: Discovering Effective Practices For Enhancing Accessibility To Curriculum And Instruction For Students Who Are Severely Impacted By Autism, Kara Lynch
Art 895 Research Papers
In this case study, I use my position as the school’s art teacher to examine the challenges faced, while in the art room, by students who are severely impacted by autism. Our elementary campus has created a PRIDE program that comprises students in grades K-5 who are severely impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other disabilities. This case study considers how educators can provide better access to curriculum and instruction for students who are severely impacted by autism. It also examines the importance of understanding this population’s needs to achieve a higher rate of success in the art room …
Enhancing Student Engagement And Persistence Within A High School Art Classroom: A Phenomenological Research Study, Rachel I. Esson
Enhancing Student Engagement And Persistence Within A High School Art Classroom: A Phenomenological Research Study, Rachel I. Esson
Art 895 Research Papers
Within this Qualitative research study, a Phenomenological approach will be used to draw conclusions and share my past and present experiences as a high school visual art educator to help facilitate better student engagement and persistence within projects. I will also utilize the reflections and experiences of other high school art teachers and former students’ perspectives 2 (from my school) to further strengthen and guide the research. Interviews and direct observations were used to gather information and will be used to make connections with scholarly research. These findings will be explained in an Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) approach, where I …
Mo, Xinyao Li
Mo, Xinyao Li
Student Projects
Emotions are attitudes or experiences response to objective things, it constantly influences everyone and decides what kind of person we became. Xinyao Li, a young photographer who was obsessed with abstract photography, was once troubled by peculiar emotions, He is a person of few words. Since childhood, his quiet nature has created a gap in communication with others. People assume him dull and aloof, like his doors are shut to all people, some people advise him to change, yet he sees no “sickness” in himself, his aloof doesn't make him indifferent, and his silence and patience are not symbol of …
Suspicion And The Witch’S Tit, Shayna R. Miller
Suspicion And The Witch’S Tit, Shayna R. Miller
Theses and Dissertations
Shayna Miller’s paintings are built up panels with protruding points, appearing as if a mass is pushing up from behind the burlap-stretched painting surface. In Suspicion and the Witch’s Tit, Miller contextualizes her work in relation to a history of shaped painting and frames her discussion around references related to suspicion, embodiment, and rejection.
