Part of The Stearns, Beede, Jencks Collection of Miniature Books. 2 boxes. miniature books; slipcases, boxes and metal cases; miniature magnifying lenses; miniature bookcases; book collecting bibliographies and periodicals; research materials; correspondence; card file. SUMMARY Emma Owens Stearns began collecting miniature books in the late 19th century and passed her passion for these treasures on to her daughter Virginia Stearns Beede. Virginia continued to add to this collection and passed it on to her daughter Anne Beede Jencks. In 2011 Anne Jencks donated this collection of miniature books, now numbering approximately 382 volumes, to the …

Scrapbooks

Marguerite, born in 1901 in Huntington, West Virginia, attended Ward Belmont during the 1917-1918 school year. She married Harry D. Witherspoon on September 15, 1920, and they moved to California. They had two children: Merilyn and Sara Patricia Witherspoon. They moved to North Carolina where Harry worked as a manager. Marguerite died in 1954 with her husband Harry followed in 1956.

In this letter, dated to approximately 1916, Abbie writes to Mrs. Tibbets about several topics, including her teaching job, attending an exhibition, seeing the Emperor pass on the street, tea services, and describes in detail her accommodations. She says that she is very happy in Japan now that she is more used to the climate.

Hattye Mae White was born in San Antonio, Texas on October 16, 1897. She attended Ward-Belmont during the 1916-1917 school year. She married Charles Cousins Johnson Jr. on September 7, 1918, and the pair had one son, Captain Charles Cousins III, born August 2, 1919. Captain Cousins would later die during World War II. Hattye Mae White Johnson died on June 23, 1979, in Texas.
