It is the purpose of the School of Practical Art to train students so thoroughly in the various phases of commercial art, that they may upon completion of the course earn a good living in their chosen career. Earnest effort and thorough preparation are necessary if the student is to become successful professionally. Spectrum was a publication released in the early 1950s by the undergraduate students at Rhode Island School of Design. This issue from May 1951 includes feedback from the first issue, budget restaurant recommendations, a poll of student social habits, campus news, an "After Hours" column with entertainment recommendations, alumni notes, and an interview of Professor Ernest Lichtblau, along with articles on the Bluebird Diner, a ballet "Black Haiti" put on by a RISD student group, and perceptions of artists.
