Nexus, 1975 No. 1, Wright State University Community

Nexus Literary Journal

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.

Express-O was a short-lived student newspaper published in early 1975. The issue of February 21, 1975 included an article about music to tie in with an appearance by Morton Subotnick at Brown University. There also was a short article from Talbot Rantoul, President of RISD about student tuition. Student board notes, poems, a short story and listing of events at RISD and in the Providence area also included.

Express-O was a short-lived student newspaper published in early 1975. The issue of February 7, 1975 included an interview with Ruth Kligman, author of Love Affair: Memoirs of Jackson Pollock, and Jackie Curtis, actor. They spoke at a lecture called "Against Nature" that Seaver Leslie organized on January 29, 1975. Their interview contained stories about their relationship with Andy Warhol and the Factory. An article about hair salons in Providence is also included. Events of interest to RISD students that took place at RISD and in the Providence area were also listed.

The issue of January 31, 1975 included an article about the Centennial building (Bank building) on the RISD campus with architect Ben Thompson. There also was an interview with Marian Marzyniski, a film review, and events listed on the RISD campus and the Providence area. Art exhibitions and attractions in New York City and Boston were also listed.

Express-O was a short-lived student newspaper published in early 1975. It was an experimental redesign of the RISD press. The issue of January 17, 1975 included an article about the proposed new building on the RISD campus and the architect Ben Thompson. Also mentioned were the Apparel Department Christmas Ball held in the RISD Refectory and the RISD Tappers, a dance group. Photos and classifieds were also included.

Scrapbooks

Betty Wiseman graduated from Belmont College and began teaching health and physical education in 1966. She was the founder and coach of the Belmont women’s basketball team, the Rebelettes (now Bruins), in 1968. At the time, it was one of the first women’s collegiate teams in the southeast. She was inducted into the Belmont Athletics Hall of Fame in 1981. She was also inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame in 2004. Wiseman coached the women’s team for 16 years (1968-1984) before moving into athletic administration at Belmont. She served as Assistant Athletics Director until her retirement in 2013. …
