Evaluating Uv Absorbers , Patricia Cox Crews, David J. Clark
Evaluating Uv Absorbers , Patricia Cox Crews, David J. Clark
Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design: Faculty Publications
UV absorbers and antioxidants topically applied to upholstery fabrics to reduce fading, separately and in conjunction with soil repellent finish formulations containing UV absorbers, were evaluated in this study. Over fifty upholstery fabrics were initially evaluated and fourteen were selected for further study. The fabrics were then topically treated with commercially available soil repellent finishes (a fluorocarbon and a silicone finish) containing UV absorbers or immersion-treated with one of thirteen UV absorbers or antioxidants. Following light exposure, color changes were evaluated visually and instrumentally. The results showed that neither the fluorocarbon nor silicone-based soil repellent finishes containing UV absorbers significantly …

Carpet Condition: A Curator's Perception Of "The Hole", Carol Bier
Carpet Condition: A Curator's Perception Of "The Hole", Carol Bier
Textile Research Works
Twenty years ago when I set out on the course of a professional life in archaeology, I thought my future lay in ruins. Preparing this paper has given me an opportunity to review my experiences and reassess my perception of condition in general. And, specifically with respect to carpets, it has enabled me to develop a heightened sense of self-awareness and perception of "the hole." I have found upon introspective analysis two key aspects of my own training and experience that have profoundly affected my response as curator to the condition of carpets: The first is a background, prior to …
Visions Of Infinity: Design And Pattern In Oriental Carpets, Carol Bier
Visions Of Infinity: Design And Pattern In Oriental Carpets, Carol Bier
Textile Research Works
A fascination with color and geometric pattern is expressed in Islamic art. In many areas of the Islamic world, historically from Spain to Indonesia, twodimensional repeat patterns provide the primary means for organizing color and space. Ornamentation of architecture, ceramics, metalwork, book illumination, textiles, and Oriental carpets relies upon the repetition of complex or simple designs, creating overall surface patterns of apparent complexity and intricacy. Patterns may consist of geometric, floral, calligraphic, or figural forms. The majority of patterns in Oriental carpets consist of geometric and stylized floral designs, arranged in a system of repeats within an oblong central field …
Snake River : A Personal Search, Eva Havas Slinker
Snake River : A Personal Search, Eva Havas Slinker
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis includes twenty landscape paintings, primarily oil on canvas, inspired by a trip to the Hell's Canyon Country of the Snake River.
The search for a personal idiom necessitated introspection, and the visual interpretation of the recalled experience required that formal issues of painting be synthesized to communicate the essential response to the landscape. The images progress from the depiction of deep space to compositions of the component parts of the landscape: trees, water, and rock.
Torso As Ceramic Vessel, Richard Garrett Masterson
Torso As Ceramic Vessel, Richard Garrett Masterson
Dissertations and Theses
The ceramic forms in this thesis project represent a study of the sculptural and figurative qualities of the ceramic process. This study includes a search for a personal form language, development of the slab construction technique, and development of a glazed surface appropriate to the work. The subject of the work is the human torso, with the vessel-like forms focusing on the core of the body as a metaphor for the core of the human spirit.

Recent Fires: Contemporary Amercian Ceramics, Philip Rawson
Recent Fires: Contemporary Amercian Ceramics, Philip Rawson
Exhibit Catalogues
This show illustrates something of the depth and range of American ceramics since World War II. It includes both very well-known and less well-known names. As most of the pieces are vessels of one kind or another (with a few oustanding exceptions) it expressly refers us to the roots of the ceramic art in handling clay by throw-potting. Many pieces in fact embody in their imagery the axially centered container. There are also some of those charmingly ironic and brightly glazed confections which have become very popular in recent years, partly for their hi-tech look. But this show is not …
