The Landscape In Transition, Tim Klunder
The Landscape In Transition, Tim Klunder
School of Art, Art History, and Design: Theses and Student Creative Work
This thesis exhibition consists of a series of urban landscape paintings. These paintings attempt to explore the issues of transition and flux within the modern environment on the edge of Lincoln as the city expands into rural areas. The paintings were all executed in acrylic and comprise a broad range of sizes on both hardboard and wooden panels. The process by which they were conceived was an evolutionary one that began with the analysis of a specific site that is not far from my home and which I see on a daily basis. Initially, the most engaging aspect of this …

The Intimate Landscape, Margery J. Hibbard
The Intimate Landscape, Margery J. Hibbard
Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
The emphasis for my master of arts painting thesis has been the landscape. I chose to explore the subject of intimate settings within the landscape as I wanted the observer to feel as if he or she was within the closely-viewed scene. My focus was the challenge of capturing the effects of filtered light, silhouetted trees, abstract shapes and reflections in intimate settings. The landscape has always held great meaning for me; I respond to its ever-changing colors and patterns. When I am alone in an inner woods, the intimate landscape setting, I feel immersed in and a part of …

Not So Nice Colored Girls: A View Of Tracey Moffatt’S Nice Coloured Girls, Caroline Vercoe
Not So Nice Colored Girls: A View Of Tracey Moffatt’S Nice Coloured Girls, Caroline Vercoe
Pacific Studies
Nice Coloured Girls is Tracey Moffatt’s first film. Produced in 1987, this seventeen-minute film describes a tradition that has been passed down from her grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s generation—that of “picking up Captain.” Moffatt explains “since colonisation ‘picking up Captain’ has been a way for Aboriginal women to survive off white men.” Rather than creating new and empowered Aboriginal heroines for the 1990s, Moffatt chooses to site her characters within a colonial continuum. Her tradition begins with postcolonial contact and it is clearly formed by cross-cultural experiences. This essay focuses on the narrative structure of Nice Coloured Girls and discusses the …
