Ethnic clothing is a vital carrier of cultural identity, yet its digital preservation often results in static displays that fail to convey deep cultural meaning or foster user engagement. Existing practices lack a systematic design framework for translating the hierarchical cultural connotations of these garments into dynamic, personalized, and identity-promoting digital experiences. This In response to complex and interrelated societal challenges such as climate change, aging populations, and urban fragmentation, Urban Living Labs (ULLs) have emerged as a promising framework to facilitate citizen-driven innovation. This study investigates how citizens can transition from one-time participants to continuous co-designers through a case study of the “Komae Machi- Transition Lab” conducted in Komae City, Tokyo. This paper explores how hybrid manufacturing can support the development of adaptive assistive technologies for people with evolving needs, such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a neuro degenerative condition that impairs muscular function and is characterised by rapidly changing symptoms. Assistive devices (ATs) are essential in supporting daily living for individuals with ALS, yet most are designed as static, general-purpose solutions that fail to account for the temporal, anatomical, and psychosocial complexities of the condition, leading to high rates of abandonment and user dissatisfaction. Narrative identity—the way individuals construct meaning by organizing life experiences into personal stories—plays a vital role in self-understanding. Generative AI systems, such as chatbots and journaling apps, are now being used to support this kind of identity work. While prior work has explored how generative AI can support either intra personal reflection or interpersonal interaction, few systems are intentionally designed to bridge the two. While established futures thinking toolkits, such as the UK’s Futures Toolkit and Singapores Scenario Planning Plus, support policy-making and expert facilitation, few address futures thinking within interdisciplinary education and industry-academia collaboration. To bridge this gap, the Taiwan Design Research Institute developed the Futures Scenario Exploration Toolkit, which combines futures triangle with narrative scenario building to guide diverse groups to imagine and design multiple futures. Mental health chat bots have emerged as accessible tools for digital psychological support. However, many systems face limitations in conversational design, particularly in questioning strategies and interactional responsiveness. This review synthesises findings from 12 peer-reviewed studies published between 2015 and 2025, identifying common design issues including rigid dialogue structures, limited contextual awareness, and insufficient emotional engagement. Thematic analysis reveals a consistent lack of structured approaches to guide the design of empathic and context-aware interactions. Firstly, A (I) Cam: an instant camera that explores generative AI in image-making and creative practice. This paper examines the transformative impact of Sense of Agency (SoA) in human-intelligent agent collaboration, arguing that multi-agent AI systems fundamentally reconfigure agency dynamics beyond traditional tool metaphors. Through philosophical analysis (intentional agency), empirical case studies (e.g., AlphaGo, TikTok algorithms, DALL·E), and socio technical critique, we identify five pivotal consequences of multi-agent systems: (1) the emergence of human-like agency in AI, challenging boundaries of consciousness and moral treatment; (2) negotiation of agency, where humans perceive AI as competitors or collaborators; (3) synergetic co-evolution, evidenced by reciprocal capability enhancement in human-AI partnerships; (4) AI-driven cultural production of cognitively inaccessible creative combinations; …

This study adopts Actor-Network Theory (ANT) to examine how non-human actors exercise agency in intergenerational interaction design. Moving beyond the notion of gerontechnology technology as passive tools, we frame these technologies as active participants in shaping intergenerational connections. Through case-based analysis and material ethnography, we analyzed four design projects—Harmony Makers, CampChess, XiangqiMate, and SereniTea House. By systematically coding design documents, interviews, and user interaction videos, we identified five dimensions of non-human agency: Interaction Triggering, Relationship Coordination, Emotional Modulation, Cultural Invocation, and Identity Positioning. Generative AI has reshaped visual design education, enhancing students’ creativity and efficiency. However, early AI implementations often prioritized technical skills over ethics, neglecting the importance of ethical literacy in AI-involved design practices. To address this gap, this exploratory pilot study introduces a structured, tool-based pedagogical framework to foster undergraduate design students’ understanding of AI ethics through hands-on design practices. In this paper, we present a co-design workshop exploring challenges and design opportunities for intergenerational empathy building. A 4-hour design workshop was conducted with 23 participants aged between 20 and 41 years old. A range of design activities was conducted to allow young participants to empathize with the elderly, brainstorm existing challenges, and collectively elicit design ideas for intergenerational empathy building. Troubleshooting complex consumer electronic products often overwhelms novice users due to limited technical knowledge and the complexity of diagnostic procedures. This study presents an AI-powered conversational assistant that guides users step-by-step through identifying and resolving product issues. Using the VanMoof S3 e-bike as a case study, the system integrates a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) framework trained on public data, including Reddit threads and user manuals. The interface supports natural dialogue to help users not only fix symptoms but also understand root causes. Objective: This research developed an environmentally sustainable alternative, called BioMask, to non-biodegradable polypropylene FFP2 masks, addressing the dual challenge of medical waste reduction and public health protection through interdisciplinary collaboration. Inclusive design has emerged as a vital concept under the orientation of "human-centered" approaches. With the growing imperative of sustainable development, the scope of inclusive design has gradually expanded into a broader framework of "humanity-centered" practices. From a relational perspective, inclusive design can be understood through four paradigmatic dimensions: the relationship between humans and products, between humans and others, between humans and the environment, and between humans and themselves. This paper explores the application of image-based approaches in a co-creation context for constructing and communicating place images, addressing the regional revitalization policy undergone in Japan for new community identity and sustainability strategies. Digital Twins (DTs) have been widely applied in industrial and urban contexts to optimize systems, yet their potential to enhance energy awareness in everyday domestic life remains under explored. This paper investigates how DT-enabled services can support energy sustainability in smart homes. Bamboo, as a renewable and sustainable material, offers significant potential to replace conventional resources such as wood, plastics, and metals. This study explores a bionic design approach that integrates bamboo craftsmanship with product and musical instrument design, resulting in a multi functional prototype that functions both as a rocking chair and a resonance drum. This paper presents an expert-driven co-design process for defining gesture-based interactions in immersive environments. Existing co-design methods often struggles with expressing abstract design elements, reaching consensus among diverse users, and translating qualitative feedback into actionable outcomes. We propose a four-stage co-design process for improving gesture-based interaction design, consisting of data collection, co-design session, expert discussion, and design decision-making, which integrates expert knowledge with embodied practice. This study investigates the application of machine learning in evaluating brand typicality during product line extension, taking inspiration from Dyson’s recent expansion into the headphone category. The research process comprised four main stages: extraction of visual features via Design Format Analysis (DFA), development of an image classification model on the WEKA platform, generation of Dyson-style speaker images using Stable Diffusion, and expert evaluation of the results. The classification model reached an accuracy of 87.21%, demonstrating an ability to distinguish between Dyson and non-Dyson styles. Creativity is a critical competency in design education; however, effective methods to enhance creativity within design tasks remain insufficiently explored. This study investigated the effects of a brief 10-minute mindfulness intervention on the creative performance of designers with different experience levels—novice and advanced students. Using pre- and post-tests of the Alternative Uses Test (AUT) alongside expert evaluations of design sketches, the study examined whether mindfulness impacts creativity differently depending on prior design experience. Results indicated that advanced designers who underwent the mindfulness training showed significant improvements in flexibility, originality, and elaboration on the AUT, with effect sizes ranging from medium …
