Ideas And Perceptions Of The Australian Landscape, Bill Hawthorn Jan 1987

Ideas And Perceptions Of The Australian Landscape, Bill Hawthorn

Research outputs pre 2011

This book is like an anthology of Australian landscape painting; it brings together for the student a range of works by artists of diverse backgrounds and different levels of commitment to the landscape as a source of imagery and it invites consideration of the paintings from a number of points of view.

The vigorous descriptions of the works together with the interesting black and white illustrations of them will focus the reader's attention on the particular quality of each. Armed with the insights and detail provided a student should find the works more accessible and more intriguing. In other words …

John Baldessari, The New Museum, New York, Wright State University Art Galleries

Exhibition and Program Catalogs

The wit, intelligence, irreverence, and breadth of knowledge manifest in John Baldessari's work have made it important to many others, artists and public alike. This is the first museum exhibition, however, to show in depth the work Baldessari has done over the past fifteen years.

When The New Museum learned that an exhibition of Baldessari's photographic works was being planned at the University Art Galleries at Wright State University, the two organizations decided to join forces. While the scope and nature of our respective exhibitions differed, we felt that by jointly sponsoring the catalog, more information about Baldessari's work could …

Photographic Imagery As A Source For Iconography In Painting And Drawing, Eric Peder Brakken

All Master's Theses

Any verbalization of an artistic statement is by its very nature, an inadequate interpretation. However, I feel there is some merit in a concise declaration of my general concepts in the study. This paper represents a summation of the concepts and directions involved in my studio investigation in painting and drawing.

Specifically, it is within the scope of man's altered and effected perception of reality that I have based the studio research.

A Series Of Paintings Investigating Certain Specified Space Concepts, Michael C. Jackson Aug 1971

A Series Of Paintings Investigating Certain Specified Space Concepts, Michael C. Jackson

All Master's Theses

This thesis is devoted only to that work considered completely investigated: a portrait/figure series of seven paintings. In addition, the series of works with which this thesis is devoted essentially follow this format: large areas of architectural space and color versus a natural object- -a portrait figure. A play or conflict was set up between these two things; the success of the play determined the success of the painting. The factors used to judge success are basically those classical rules of composition dealing with balance: visual weight of areas, complexity, and color. The only areas manipulated were: (1) shape of …

The Investigation Of Figure-Ground Relationships In Painting, Barbara H. Jones Jul 1968

The Investigation Of Figure-Ground Relationships In Painting, Barbara H. Jones

All Master's Theses

The thesis problem involved the investigation of figure-ground relationships in painting. This study dealt with varying experiments in space, color relationships, the juxtaposition of form, and value relationships. The media used were those common to oil, watercolor and drawing. The investigation entailed the development of form and space relationships in a series of paintings. The study included a critical evaluation regarding achievement of the expressive aims, and the conclusions drawn from individual paintings, as well as from the series. The fundamental locus lay within the figure-ground relationship and that has been the emphasis.

The Relation Of French Poetry And Painting To The Development Of French Impressionistic Music, Phyllis Elaine Threlfall Jan 1931

The Relation Of French Poetry And Painting To The Development Of French Impressionistic Music, Phyllis Elaine Threlfall

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

As far as the writer could find in her reading no one has ever written a finished study of this phase of Music, Art, and Literature. Of course, there are hints of it here and there in many books, but in no one in particular was a detailed study given. Paul Landormy’s book, A History of Music, seemed to carry the heart of the subject, however, in an extremely miniature style.

When we think of French music, our minds are generally centered in Paris, for it is here that the greatest organizations have been sponsored, and the important musical ideas …
