Ash Hollow Cave: A Study Of Stratigraphic Sequence In The Central Great Plains, John L. Champe
University Studies (University of Nebraska) (1888–1984)
The Great Plains has been an important laboratory for anthropological research since the latter part of the nineteenth century. Much of the early work was ethnological in character, a consequence, perhaps, of the late preservation of tribal life in the area. These early studies, however, cover a wide range and include subjects as diverse as tribal ethnographies, special studies in ethnobotany, and distributional analyses of Sun Dance traits. Although many of the earlier studies stressed historical sequences, a definite swing away from this position soon developed. By the middle of the nineteen-twenties, in fact, investigators became so preoccupied with distributional …

Because so little has been written concerning the Negro in California and because the dynamic and romantic sequences in the development of this country have always interested me, I have become interested in knowing what part the Negro, free and slave, played in this panorama of events. Were there Negroes with early expeditions? To what extent did they migrate to the West when "gold fever" had become a nation-wide epidemic? Did they find gold? Where did they settle? This thesis is the presentation of the history of the Churches of Christ in Morgan County, Kentucky, from their beginning to the present day. Although the term "Church of Christ" predominates in Morgan County, it will be used synonymously with the Christian Church in this thesis. The term "Disciples of Christ" will not be used, although it is the name of the brotherhood as given in the United States Census reports and the name on the Year Book. Morgan County has an area of 413 square miles and a population ot 16,327. It is located in the central eastern part …
