Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
On April 18, 1988, an archaeological crew from the Center for Archaeological Research at The University of Texas at San Antonio conducted a testing program at the historic dam for Mission San Juan Capistrano, San Antonio, Texas. The results of the excavations and the corresponding archival research are reported. Conclusions are drawn as to the dam's location, formation, and function.

Archaeological And Historical Investigations For The Mission Road Realignment Project, San Antonio, Texas, Joseph H. Labadie
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The Mission Road Realignment Project proposes to relocate the current position of Mission Road, which transects the original Mission Concepcion quadrangle, farther west and in the vicinity of the road's 18th-century location. Archaeological testing conducted by the Center for Archaeological Research sought to determine if significant cultural resources would be adversely impacted by the road relocation project. Intensive testing established that no significant remains were located within or adjacent to the proposed right-of-way.

The Camp Pearl Wheat Site 41kr23 A Program For Data Recovery
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Site 41KR243, the Camp Pearl Wheat Site, is located along FM 783 and the south bank of Town Creek in Kerr County, central Texas (Fig. 1). The site was identified and recommended for testing by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) in response to plans for realigning a hazardous curve on FM 783. Test excavations were performed in June 1988 and consisted of three 2-meter square hand-excavated units within the proposed 120 foot wide right-of-way. Although testing was limited because a portion of the site is used as a summer youth camp, Camp Pearl Wheat, sufficient data …

Research Design And Data Recovery Plan Archaeological Site 41wm13 At Norman's Crossing, Williamson County, Texas, Alan J. Wormser
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The Texas State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) will replace the bridge on CR 439 (signed "County Road 129") over Brushy Creek in the south-central part of the county at Norman's Crossing (Figures 1 and 2). The new bridge will be built just east of the present bridge. The present bridge will continue to be used until the new bridge is completed, which eliminates the need for a temporary detour easement. Additional right-of-way will be obtained east of the county road in order to construct the new bridge and approaches.
Site 41WM13 was located during routine inspection by …

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
The prehistoric site descriptions are divided into three sections: Garza County, Kent County, and Isolated Finds. All sites are described fully in a telegraphic format in order to conserve space. The descriptions are organized by county in alphabetical order and in numerical order of site within each county. Information for each site 1s organized into six headings: location, description, features, cultural materials observed/collected, shovel test data, and assessment/recommendations. The determination of the percentage of the site remaining intact is based on in-field observations of the postulated original areal extent of the site versus what is still potentially intact. Assessments are …

David Wagoner, Ron Mcfarland
David Wagoner, Ron Mcfarland
Western Writers Series Digital Editions
Writing for Mademoiselle in the spring of 1971, David Wagoner described his introduction to the Northwest as an ordeal lasting some five minutes. He had grown up in Whiting, Indiana, where his father had worked as a smelter at the steel mills in the industrial wasteland between Gary, Indiana, and Chicago, Illinois. Those images from his childhood are recorded in his first collection of poems, Dry Sun, Dry Wind (1953), and in five novels which are centered in the urban Midwest. But in 1971 the forty-five-year-old poet and novelist could speak not as a Midwesterner, but as a Westerner: “I …
