This professional project will examine and map the water levels in Albuquerque for the year 2016 using ArcGIS. The potentiometric surface of Albuquerque’s aquifer will be estimated using data from the USGS, the City of Albuquerque, Sandia National Labs, and Rio Rancho. Problem Statement:

INTRODUCTION Lack of water is nothing new for New Mexico’s general population. However, its immediate negative effects are unevenly distributed throughout the state, which is increasingly evident in the context of rising temperatures and decreases in precipitation. Access to clean drinking water is significantly more pressing in rural and off-the-grid communities than in metropolitan areas of New Mexico. On the Taos Mesa in northern New Mexico, these off-the-grid communities continue hauling as the only available method for accessing water today. As the new millennium unfolds, many activists and scholars have responded to enduring inequality in urban environments by embracing French philosopher Henri Lefebvre's writings on the "right to the city" as a "rallying cry and demand." In an effort to contribute to this dialogue, this thesis explores the concept of the "right to the city" by operationalizing it as a theoretical framework rooted in Lefebvre’s original writings and applying it o a grounded examination of the street newspaper Hecho en Buenos Aires to examine the intersection of "right to the city" theory and practice. Stormwater runoff volumes increase with urbanization, at a significant cost to the environment (Walsh, et al., 2005; Dhakal & Chevalier, 2016; Warnemuende, Shuster, Smith, & Bonta, 2003; Dougherty, et al., 2007; Jacobson, 2011; Natural Resources Conservation Service, 1986; Masoud, 2015). The Merced del Pueblo de Abiquiu is one of New Mexico’s historic genizaro land grant settlements. “Genizaro was the designation given to North American Indians of mixed tribal derivation living among the Hispanic population” (Gonzales 2014). The “historical connection to the Hopi Genizaro Pueblo Indians of Tewa descent” (Gonzales 2014) is what gives Abiquiu its Pueblo designation. The original settlers were Tewa peoples who settled the area during the early 1600s, followed by the Hopi who left Arizona and settled in the Merced del Pueblo de Abiquiu. “From the 1740s to the 1790s, towns such as Abiquiu were established as …

Bernalillo County Parks and Recreation collaborated with the University of New Mexico, Resource Center for RAZA Planning (RCRP), and the School of Architecture and Planning. The County owns and manages several open space properties in and around Tijeras Canyon. In previous history, the County has acquired land in a reactionary way to protect natural resources or preserve recreational areas. They have also worked with UNM and other entities to purchase properties for co-management, like the UNM golf course. The conference “Cultures of Exile: Conversations on Language and the Arts,” co-organized by Professors Eleni Bastea and Walter Putnam, was inspired by the music of Georges Moustaki (1934--2013), especially his song “Le Métèque” (1969). In “Le Métèque” Moustaki dealt with outsiders, strangers, and all those who do not share one homogeneous place of origin. What does it mean to be a “métèque,” an exile, an outsider today? During the spring of 2013 Design Planning Assistance Center (DPAC) of the University of New Mexico's School of Architecture and Planning worked with New Mexico MainStreet to assist Clovis and Tucumcari MainStreet communities and Arts and Cultural District (ACD) initiatives. The work focused on the three historic theaters in Clovis and two in Tucumcari as part of a larger initiative on New Mexico's historic theaters. The studio proposed renovations, adaptive reuses, and additions to the theaters, and proposed both permanent and temporary facilities to create art and cultural theater districts.
