Legislation
Current development patterns and increased tax pressures in local municipalities combine to harm both Maine’s natural resources and its quality of life. Previous initiatives such as the implementation of zoning laws did not fully result in the desired outcomes. Zoning laws were often too flexible and often did not resist market and political pressures to change zoning regulations to allow development with possible economic growth. A sound taxation system or fee structure may be the solution to slow down development in natural areas and direct it towards areas appropriate for growth.
To protect Maine’s natural resources more successfully from future …
Storage Of Architectural Materials At The Syracuse University Library, Peter D. Verheyen, Carolyn Davis, Debra Olson
Storage Of Architectural Materials At The Syracuse University Library, Peter D. Verheyen, Carolyn Davis, Debra Olson
Librarian Publications
When the Department of Special Collections at the Syracuse University Library acquired the papers of Werner Seligmann, an architect and former Dean of the Syracuse University School of Architecture, the opportunity presented itself to develop a model storage system that could be applied to the other architectural drawings in the Department. While not large in comparison to these other collections, the Seligmann Papers were sizable enough to give us a better understanding of the storage issues involved if we decided to undertake the task of re-housing our other drawings. If such a task were to be undertaken, a new storage …

17 | Maresha Excavations Final Report I: Subterranean Complexes 21, 44, 70, Amos Kloner
IAA Reports—Monograph Series of the Israel Antiquities Authority
This is the first of the series of final reports on the excavations at the Hellenistic city of Maresha, and documents the work in the extensive man-made subterranean complexes below the lower city during the 1980s. Three subterranean complexes are presented here (70, 21, 44–45), including the study of their architecture, pottery and small finds and the industries that took place there. Chapters 1 and 2 present the setting of the site and review previous excavations, while Chapter 9 summarizes all the data in order to present a human face for the finds uncovered here.

In 1995, the editors of Historic Preservation bestowed their Great American Main Street Awards upon Pasadena, California; Clarksville, Missouri; Dubuque, Iowa; Franklin, Tennessee; and Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin. The awards recognized the collective achievements of local governments, citizenry, and historic preservationists who “tapped into community pride and energy and built upon--not over--the inherent value of their community’s historic character.” It is no surprise that Pasadena represents California on this list, as the city has eighty-four separate listings on the National Register of Historic Places as of November 2001. This is more, in fact, than some counties--consider the forty-eight listings in Riverside …
Carnegie Library Buildings In Iowa Today, Terri Hudachek
Carnegie Library Buildings In Iowa Today, Terri Hudachek
Graduate Research Papers
The purpose of this study was to present the history of four Iowa Carnegie Library buildings: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cedar Falls, Iowa, West Liberty, Iowa, and Eldon, Iowa. These four building histories were selected because together they represent the common fates of such buildings, not only in Iowa, but across the country. The Carnegie Library in Eldon remains much the same as the day it opened in May 9, 1913 with many original features intact. The West Liberty Carnegie Library building has been renovated to retain the Carnegie appearance. Cedar Falls had renovated its Carnegie library building with no regard …
