In an effort to better understand how rural construction techniques affect a surrounding environment, this study combines a density test of the natural building materials used in the construction of a school on Sumak Allpa island of the Orellana Province in the Amazon basin of Ecuador. The focus of the study measures the density of the bamboo species Guadua angustifolia and the Panama hat plant Carludovica palmata on the island while noting a comprehensive compilation of the techniques and materials used in the building process. Due to the high energy consumption in cities like New York, I am designing a shading system to be retrofitted on an existing façade that responds to external thermal conditions. I’ve conceptualized the functions of the shading system to either block/allow sunlight and analyzed its effectiveness in terms of energy use and illuminance in comparison to the modeled office space. Currently, one of society’s greatest goals is the reduction of greenhouse gases. This goal is generally accepted worldwide, as evidenced by the Paris Climate Agreement, the parties to which agreed to establish frameworks for adopting clean energy and reducing greenhouse gases. After the United States’ controversial decision to withdraw from the Paris Agreement, the federal government’s future in reducing greenhouse gases remains uncertain. Despite this setback, there are existing programs aimed at reducing greenhouse gases in the United States that the government should ensure succeed. We demonstrate a simple and flexible technique to efficiently activate micro/nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS/NEMS) resonators at their fundamental and higher order vibration modes. The method is based on the utilization of the amplified voltage across an inductor, L, of an LC tank resonant circuit to actuate the MEMS/NEMS resonator. By matching the electrical and mechanical resonances, significant amplitude amplification is reported across the resonators terminals. We show experimentally amplitude amplification up to twelve times, which is demonstrated to efficiently excite several vibration modes of a microplate MEMS resonator and the fundamental mode of a NEMS resonator.

In China, heritage trees are actively surveyed and reported. Over 300 relevant published articles were reviewed to assess the contents, trends and geographical distributions of the investigations. The majority of the heritage trees studies in China were found in the eastern provinces and published within 2010–2014. Most studies reported surveys on all old trees. For studies focused on single species, Ginkgo (Ginkgo biloba) and Chinese Yew (Taxus chinensis) was most frequently reported. Cantilever electrostatically-actuated resonators show great promise in sensing and actuating applications. However, the electrostatic actuation suffers from high-voltage actuation requirements and high noise low-amplitude signal-outputs which limit its applications. Here, we introduce a mixed-frequency signal for a cantilever-based resonator that triggers its mechanical and electrical resonances simultaneously, to overcome these limitations. A single linear RLC circuit cannot completely capture the response of the resonator under double resonance excitation. Therefore, we develop a coupled mechanical and electrical mathematical linearized model at different operation frequencies and validate this model experimentally. The double-resonance excitation results in a 21 times amplification of the voltage …

This paper summarizes the results of traditional image processing algorithms for detection of defects in concrete using images taken by Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs). Such algorithms are useful for improving the accuracy of crack detection during autonomous inspection of bridges and other structures, and they have yet to be compared and evaluated on a dataset of concrete images taken by UAS. จากกฎกระทรวงฉบับที่ 41 (พ.ศ.2537) เคยมีการปรับปรุงข้อกำหนดให้ช่องจอดรถยนต์เล็กลง จากขนาดกว้าง 2.50 x ยาว 6.00 เมตร เป็น 2.40 x 5.00 เมตร ต่อมามีนโยบายส่งเสริมการลงทุนของสำนักงานคณะกรรมการส่งเสริมการลงทุน (BOI) ที่ส่งผลให้เกิดการใช้รถยนต์ขนาดเล็กเพิ่มขึ้น โดยการศึกษาเบื้องต้นพบว่าช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดเล็กมีขนาดลดลงเป็น 2.30 x 4.20 เมตร ดังนั้นถ้าขนาดช่องจอดรถยนต์มีขนาดเล็กลง และมีหลายขนาดเพื่อรองรับรถยนต์ที่มีความหลากหลายในปัจจุบันได้ จะส่งผลให้เกิดความคุ้มค่าในการใช้พื้นที่ช่องจอดรถยนต์ และประหยัดค่าก่อสร้างมากขึ้น การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาผลที่จะได้รับจากการปรับใช้ช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดเล็กร่วมกับรถยนต์ขนาดทั่วไป จากการสร้างความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างช่องจอดรถยนต์ ทางวิ่ง โครงสร้าง ทางลาด และเปรียบเทียบอัตราส่วนของพื้นที่ระหว่างช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดทั่วไปและขนาดเล็กที่แตกต่างกัน เพื่อนำมาศึกษาความคุ้มค่าในการลงทุนการก่อสร้าง ตลอดจนการสัมภาษณ์ผู้เกี่ยวข้อง เพื่อทำการสรุปแนวทางการปรับใช้ขนาดช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดเล็ก สำหรับอาคารจอดรถยนต์ จำนวน 200 คัน จากการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลพบว่า เมื่อมีการปรับใช้และเพิ่มอัตราส่วนของจำนวนช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดเล็กเข้าไปแทนที่ช่องจอดรถยนต์ขนาดทั่วไป สามารถลดขนาดพื้นที่ของอาคารเริ่มต้นได้ 1% และลดลงไปได้มากที่สุดถึง 3-4% โดยพื้นที่มีขนาดเฉลี่ยเท่ากับ 27-31 ตร.ม./คัน หรือลดลงต่อ 1 ชั้น เท่ากับ 2 ตร.ม./คัน นอกจากนี้การลงทุนการก่อสร้างยังลดลงในอัตราส่วนที่เท่ากันตามไปด้วย ผลการศึกษาชี้ให้เห็นว่ามีผู้เห็นด้วยต่อการตัดสินใจในการปรับใช้ขนาดช่องจอดรถยนต์ที่เล็กลงและสามารถนำไปปรับใช้ได้จริง นอกจากประหยัดค่าก่อสร้างมากขึ้นแล้ว พื้นที่เหลือสามารถนำไปใช้ประโยชน์เป็นพื้นที่ขายและพื้นที่เช่าได้ในอาคารชุดระดับปานกลาง-ต่ำ ห้างสรรพสินค้า และสำนักงานในเมือง โดยอัตราส่วนของช่องจอดรถยนต์ที่ต่างกันขึ้นอยู่กับประเภทและที่ตั้งของอาคาร ซึ่งแนวความคิดนี้สามารถนำไปปรับใช้เป็นมาตรการส่งเสริมการพัฒนาการเพิ่มอัตราส่วนพื้นที่อาคารรวมต่อพื้นที่ดิน หรือ FAR Bonus ได้ และข้อเสนอแนะงานวิจัยนี้ นอกจากการลดพื้นที่ช่องจอดรถยนต์แล้ว ขนาดของทางวิ่งและทางลาด ควรมีขนาดที่สัมพันธ์กับพื้นที่ของช่องจอดรถยนต์ที่เล็กลงตามไปด้วย เพื่อให้เกิดการใช้พื้นที่อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพมากยิ่งขึ้น

ในพื้นที่เมืองเก่านครหลวงเวียงจันทน์ มีต้นไม้ใหญ่เก่าแก่ ที่ปลูกมาตั้งแต่สมัยของฝรั่งเศสปกครอง ปัจจุบันมีปัญหาตายและหักโค่น เป็นอันตรายต่อผู้คนและทรัพย์สินโดยรอบ จึงควรมีการตรวจสอบและวางแผนดูแลรักษา โดยการประเมินระดับความเสี่ยงในการหักโค่นของต้นไม้ใหญ่ แต่จากการศึกษาเบื้องต้นพบว่ายังไม่มีข้อมูลเพียงพอ การศึกษาครั้งนี้ จึงทำการสำรวจสภาพต้นไม้ใหญ่ฯ และจัดทำฐานข้อมูลพื้นฐาน ให้หน่วยงานที่รับผิดชอบ ใช้ประเมินความเสี่ยงและวางแผนจัดการดูแลรักษาต่อไป จากการสำรวจพบว่า ต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่มีคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์ ในพื้นที่เมืองเก่านครหลวงเวียงจันทน์ มีจำนวน 331 ต้น ประกอบด้วยมะฮอกกานี 265 ต้น จามจุรี 36 ต้น และสัก 30 ต้น อยู่บนถนนฟ้างุ่ม ขุนบูลม คูเวียง สามแสนไท เสดถาทิลาด สักกะลิน มะโหสด และจันทะกุมมาน มีขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางลำต้น 40-176 ซม. มีความสูง 4.5 - 27 ม. และมีขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางทรงพุ่ม 0-28 ม. ในเรื่องสภาพต้นไม้ ปัญหารากที่พบมากสุดคือ รากงัดผิวดิน แตกฉีก ขดรัดรอบต้น เปลือกแหว่งหาย ถูกตัดฟัน/เสียดสี และคอรากจมดิน ปัญหาลำต้นที่พบมากสุดคือ ลำต้นถูกเจาะทำลาย เปลือกแหว่งหาย ปูดบวม แตกฉีก เอียง และผุ และปัญหากิ่งที่พบมากสุดคือ กิ่งตาย แตกกิ่งกระโดง ผุ แตกฉีก หักห้อยคาต้น และขึ้นเบียดกัน ปัญหาอื่น ประกอบด้วย ปัญหาใบคือ ใบเหี่ยว และใบเหลือง ปัญหาศัตรูพืช คือ กาฝาก และแมลง และปัญหาทรงพุ่มคือ ทรงพุ่มเบี้ยว และถูกบั่นยอด นอกจากนี้ ในการสำรวจลักษณะโดยรวมของต้นไม้ พบว่าส่วนใหญ่มีสัดส่วนความสูงทรงพุ่มมากกว่า 70% มีความแน่นพุ่มใบในระดับปกติ เช่นเดียวกับปริมาณกิ่งในทรงพุ่ม ที่ส่วนใหญ่มีปริมาณอยู่ในระดับปกติ ในเรื่องสภาพพื้นที่ ส่วนใหญ่มีปัญหาสภาพดินอัดแน่น วัสดุดาดแข็งปูทับและร่องละบายน้ำใต้ดิน อันเป็นสิ่งกีดขวางการขยายตัวของระบบรากต้นไม้ ส่วนการใช้พื้นที่ พบว่ามีผู้คน สิ่งก่อสร้าง และยานพาหนะ ที่เสี่ยงจะได้รับความเสียหายจากการหักโค่นของต้นไม้ รวมทั้งระบบวิศวกรรม อาคาร และอื่น …
