Design work from the 1988 spring semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Viking Ship Museum. Cliff Welch. A museum in Chicago to house a replica of a Viking ship sits between the edge of Lake Michigan and a tree-covered park. The project responds with a straight edge at the lake, and reacts with a lyrically rhythmic twisting form that echoes the branching and undulations of the trees in the park. The park extends into the museum, separating it into two sections: the entry to the museum and gift shop, and the gallery that …

Design is most often carried out as an aesthetic exercise in visual affect and spatial treatment. If more stimulation of other human senses (orienting, auditory, smell / taste, visual, and haptic) were to occur in a place, perhaps the place would become more meaningful and memorable. In an effort to address this hypothesis, a Sensory Garden was designed, and hopefully will be implemented. As far as can be determined no other gardens in the United States exist which were designed explicitly to stimulate all the senses. The Syrian Ayyubid architecture of the thirteenth century reflects outstanding architectonic qualities of harmony and proportion. This study intends to demonstrate how the Madrasa al-Firdaus is a chef-d'oeuvre of this period.

To adequately assess the historical significance of the Mad River suspension bridge near Mountain View, commonly referred to as the Jack Shaw Bridge, it was necessary to research not only the bridge but the surrounding area as well. With its exceptional array of Victorian and turn-of-the- century commercial and residential structures, Ferndale is recognized statewide as a place of historic significance. Individual structures are notable examples of late 19th and early 20th century styles, many displaying the opulent applied ornamentation of the period. But the significance of this collection is not simply that of individual structures; rather, it is the architectural and historic integrity of the town as a whole that preserves a Victorian character rarely found in late 20th century America.
