Influences On Early Twentieth Century Bungalow Housing In Lincoln, Nebraska, Madeleine F. Panarelli May 1981

Influences On Early Twentieth Century Bungalow Housing In Lincoln, Nebraska, Madeleine F. Panarelli

Open Access Master's Theses (through 2010)

Housing publications of the Bungalow era (1900 to 1930) containing over 1200 illustrated Bungalows and derivations, were compared with 717 photographed representatives in Lincoln, Nebraska. These samples were categorized by 10 types first described by writer Henry Saylor (1911). Interpretations of the style by local builders and architects in Lincoln, Nebraska, were traced to house pattern books, national and local publications, and state and city records, to determine how the style evolved locally. The search led to regional design features of the Bungalow, nearly square forms, and composite types.

Willburn Family, Susie Van Kirk

Susie Van Kirk Papers

In 1862, Capt. Ketchem from Fort Baker noted in his records that he received the assistance of the ranchers in Hettenshaw in rounding up the Indians. Among them were Jim Willburn, Jim Graham and Steve Fleming. Fleming acted as a guide for the soldiers and helped to bring in Chief Lassik and his band from the area in southwest Trinity known as Red and Black Lassic or simply the Lassics. An entry in the military records which reads, “Willburn and Fleming report the loss of many stock.”

A Guide To Revenue Administration For Small Cities, Institute Of Urban Studies

Institute of Urban Studies Publications - Archive

Commencing with California's passage of Proposition 13, cities and towns throughout the nation have been compelled to re-examine their reliance on traditional revenue sources. Whether or not there has in fact been a universal "taxpayer revolt", the economic conditions of the past few years have caused both city officials and the public at large to seek relief from the increasing burden of the property tax. Believing that an analysis of other municipal revenue sources, whether existing or potential, might benefit Texas cities and towns, the Institute of Urban Studies obtained a grant under Title I of the Higher Education Act …

1980.2 - Student Housing Uta, Martin Price, Robert Meckfessel

School of Architecture Student Projects - Archive

Design work from the 1980 fall semester, Studio Martin Price, School of Architecture, The University of Texas at Arlington. Dormitory. Robert Meckfessel. The aim of positioning the dorm at the periphery of the UTA commuter parking lot, is to attempt to socially intermix the student residents with students who commute to campus. The three dormitory pathways meander across a pond and form a connection to the University. These paths define the form of the linear buildings and arrive at a plaza that focuses on the main route through the campus. Roof profiles also meander and join an earth berm, giving …

Earth Sheltered Housing: An Old Concept Being Refined, Loren F. Duchman Nov 1980

Earth Sheltered Housing: An Old Concept Being Refined, Loren F. Duchman

Graduate Research Papers

Earth sheltered housing has always been used by man throughout the ages. The need to conserve energy has forced man to seek alternative methods of housing that will meet this need. Earth sheltered housing has been in the shadow of above ground structures for many years. Recently the value of earth sheltered housing has been reexamined and a great deal of work has taken place towards the refinement of this old housing concept.

In the process of refining an old concept many new ideas, materials, and problems have surfaced. There have been many trial and error approaches to refinement as …

The Park Forest Home Maintenance Handbook, Dudley Onderdonk Jul 1980

The Park Forest Home Maintenance Handbook, Dudley Onderdonk

Park Forest

This Home Maintenance Handbook is designed for Park Forest homeowners who are concerned about home maintenance and improvement. Renters and members of the Village's cooperatives also will find the chapters on housing code, energy conservation, and home safety and security, useful.

It is hoped the handbook will help residents address some basic questions surrounding home ownership. This is not a "how to" or a repair manual, but rather a guide to help homeowners evaluate their homes. Before homeowners can make constructive changes they must have some understanding of how a house "works". This handbook is concerned with home maintenance, especially …

Gobar Gas Plants: How Appropriate Are They?, Hemalata C. Dandekar May 1980

Gobar Gas Plants: How Appropriate Are They?, Hemalata C. Dandekar

City and Regional Planning

The technology of producing methane gas from cow-dung and other wastes and using it as fuel for various, purposes has received considerable attention in India during the last decade. In the light of the growing energy shortage that the country faces gobar gas is being cited as having great potential for answering the energy needs of rural areas. In this climate it is relevant to explore the desirability of gobar gas technology from the village perspective since, after all, it is the farmer in' the countryside who, ultimately decides whether or not to invest in a gobar gas plant.

This …
